Ordered..

They certainly know their stuff, a pleasure to deal with. I did an order mid afternoon today, and they said it'd all be with me tomorrow!
They said they'd done a similar setup for a lady doing a stint in Africa, I wonder who that could have been..?

I highly recommend Daves' carb mods. VERY easy to perform.
My '03 XR650L also has a W2 exhaust, larger fuel tank, vented airbox, and has been de-smogged. The bike flat out RIPS, will do 85mph all day two up with my 16 year old daughter on the back, and gives an honest 50 mpg.
Put it in first gear, and it will idle along thru almost anything.
Wonderful bike. Everyone can bash the 650l's weight til the cows come home, but I don't care. Damn thing will go anywhere, and they are indestructable. No radiators or water pumps to worry about either.

I would wade in here, but there's plenty in these links for you:

Pan-Med 2004 and other pages in the mini-site
XR650L bike pics
Pan-Med 2004 travelling with this bike
Pan-Med 2004 every XRL owner's worst nightmare!!!!

My web resources from that trip are a little shaky! That said you can probably pick up a lot of info from my pathological photographing and a history of detailed discussions on this site.

I spent a lot of time and effort optimising my XRL.... Some of the things I did were in common with Des Riders and Wright Bagwell, others were not.

My bike was an absolute belter, with or without luggage. I don't think there was a bike I would have rather used, despite some well-known engine design problems. It was a real wrench to sell the bike when I returned. Oddly I have never heard anything from the guy who bought it?

Drop me a line on email / PM with any questions.
I have a Dommie now, so may be able to help in comparisons too :-)

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
