Burning poor fuel in XR650R
 

Anyone have any experience in running the XR650R in third world countries in which only poor quality fuel is available? With the high compression ratio have you run into problems? Thanks

The way I hear people talk/read it doesn’t seem to be that big a problem. (We will see what your AdvRider post comes up with as well.) I am more concerned about the mpg/kpl of the XRR compared to other smaller cc dirt bikes. I don’t need the power but fuel efficiency would be nice. (And I am not taking my F650)

Oh if I could only get 50 mpg, that would be the day.

A couple of responses in ADV site show thats its not a problem with poor fuel. What mileage have you got when you just take it easy..... as if you were doing a RTW....or have you ever taken it easy on your BRP?

its fine on african fuel - from algeria to zimbabwe (both alphabetically and geographically)

cruising at 90kmh - 22-23kpl

Thats outstanding mileage for the XR650R. How is your bike set up and what, if any, modifications have you done? Pictures?

22-23kpl on tar with 28 litre IMS tank, 13litre rear fuel tank and 11 litre rear water tank, kit on front rack and rear mudguard. fat bastard on top. slim-Tim got 23.5-24kpl.
no engine mods, but 15/45t gearing. 17kpl in sand along Canning Stock Route when laden to approx 250kg + said fat bastard
