AT electrical shut down

Hi,

I'm not travelling right now.
But yesterday my AT (97 model, 120 000 Kms, already went to central Asia) lost all the electrical power (as if no battery were installed) while I was going home from work.
I checked the battery connections, the fuses => ok. And went home by foot.
And this morning the bike started well, every thing is again ok, as if nothing happened yesterday (!!!).

Has someone here ever experienced such a problem ?
Some ideas about the root cause ?

Thanks in advance.
Alfred

Salut!

My 180,000 kms AT died recently with total electrical failure. I checked everything obvious with no luck. I asked a friend to check it over and he found a spade connector which looked OK but was actually on breaking point. It did actually break off when inspected. Simple metal fatigue.

This connector was in the connection box below the airbox, just at the steering head. At this point, you will see three plastic connector boxes, each with many wires entering. My problem was located in the one on the right, looking from above.

I dont think this is your problem as your bike started again, but keep this in mind anyway.

Good luck

Check the ignition switch too. I had one fail once and it just kills everything dead. Pattern ones for 30 quid are exactly the same as a genuine Honda one for £115. Try bypassing the switch with some wires if it dies again.

Thanks to both of you for your inputs.
