Africa Twin Parts

How easy is it to obtain consumable parts for the 'Africa Twin' while travelling RTW.

Pads, Sprockets, Filters, Discs etc.

Thanks

Some places (AUS,USA) never saw the AT so you have to know your part and part numbers and may have to wait for shipping in.. Alot of the part are swappable between different honda motors so if you know the actual part number a Honda shop should be able to tell you what else could fit...

Join up with XRV.Org.uk (Honda Trail Bike Forums) and you can get the micros for all part numbers.

barring that

Both David silvers (David Silver Spares - HOME) and wemoto (Wemoto Home) ship almost anywhere and have almost any AT part.. and both have good customer relations..

so based on this i would say easy... if not walk in walk out service

DO NOT plan to ship parts in. Consumables can generally be carried, and I would recommend doing so. Shipping parts in is possible but is time consuming at the collection end and involves all manner of import duties, bribes and extra charges - and we're talking in the DHL office here...

So - carry plugs, oil filter a rear tyre and a front sprocket. That will see you right for 16000 miles, which is plenty to get you back to a "civilised" country where you can buy a new chain and sprockets, a new pair of tyres, some new plugs and another oil filter...

Well, that's what I plan to do for my next trip having made the mistake of shipping stuff around the planet this time round. :D

PS - don't worry about brake pads and discs. I fitted new EBC sintered pads front and rear before I set off for Cape Town from the UK, and both look like they'd go back up the other side of Africa and back down this way.

Standard Honda discs have done 35000 miles now and no problems if your brake calipers are in good nick, the discs should last fine...
