Africa Twin & Michelin Desert tyres
 

Heading for Morocco again next Spring, and I'm going to fit some off-road tyres to my Africa Twin for the rough stuff. Just wondering if it's possible to get some decently knobblie tyres, probably Michelin Deserts, under the stock front mudguard? Or am I going to have to mount a MX-style fender?

Also heading for Marocco in spring next year I am trying to figger out wich tyres I should place under my Transalp 650.
My dealer suggested the Michelin deserts.

I am hoping to stay of the asfalt as much as possible once in Marocco. But I am not considering extreem desert crossings.

Any remarks or tips welcome.

Deserts will defineately fit under the guard.
Ive used a few sets on my bike. They are great in the dirt and last reasonably well but the front is TERRIBLE on the tar.

I have good experiance with Conti TKC80, on the road the grip is very good (even in the wet) and offroad they're also great. Michelin Desert might be better in the sand but i heard they are very hard and therefor not so good on (wet) tarmac.
The TKC rear lasted about 6000 km in my A.T. and i changed the front after 15000 only because it was deformed (not because it was worn).
The front needed some getting used to, it needs a little more effort getting into corners, the rear feels a lot like the Trailwings i was used to.

Deserts are good tyres and last for ages compared with other knobblies (roughly twice as long as the last set of Pirelli 21's I used). But - they are tough as hell to put on / take off - especially 17 inch rears. Prepare for a struggle if you get a puncture on a piste. The other thing is that they whine at around 50mph - similar to tyre noise on landrovers. No big deal, but it does get annoying after a while
