My recently purchased 90/RD04 AT has an 'isis' chain fitted with a 'split link'.

Is this safe? I've had split link chains before on lower powered bikes without any problems but I would have thought the AT was too powerful for a split link chain and would need a solid link.

What do you reckon?

I have used a split link in my chain for over two years and 65000 miles without any problems whatsoever. I'm sure someone probably has some scientific reason not to use them but I am sticking with it.

I'm glad to hear that and I suppose split links wouldn't be provivded at all with that spec' chain if they were that dangerous however I'm still a bit concerned.

What make of chain you using?

I am using a DID 'O' ring chain but be warned that you must use a DID split link with it as different chains have different size rollers.

I used a DID split link chain on my old 600 Transalp for many thousands of miles. I didn't have any problems and with a 'Scotoiler' fitted to the bike the service life of the chain was in excess of 30k.

The chain on the bike is an 'isis' a make I've never heard of. After loads of searching I discovered that they're a Spanish chain company whose chains are fitted as standard to quite a few makes of bike.
