Acerbis tank fitting on XR650 - help !!
 

Hi guys, hope someone can give me some advice here.

Iv bought an 23L Acerbis tank for my XR650R and just fitted it. Iv come to start fitted the fuel lines and a little dismayed by the fact that the taps are pretty much the same height as the Carb. I piped it up using a Y-joint and kept the lines as high as possible as installed a small in-line filter just before the carb. Iv filled the tank half way and the tank just isnt feeded the carb or the filter. There doesnt seem to be enough gravity. The suction from the carb is noway going to be enough to pull it through.

Any advice floating around when it comes to piping up these tanks on the BRP.

Ive have the same setup on my xr650r

but it doesnt matter how you plumb the lines in as long as the liquid level (in the tank) is above the carburettor inlet level then fuel will flow

this means you have a problem elsewhere

eg tap positions?(!) filter blocked/too small/back to front/ etc.
a blockage in the line.(eg a bit of plastic from installation)
check thoroghly by disconnecting 'sections' with taps ON. each section should flow easily.

check taps are OK in themselves, open them up if no flow.

there is NO NEED for the carb to 'suck' in fuel unless the tank liquid level is say 15cm BELOW the carb inlet point. then you need a vacuum pump. not relevant here

On mine I keep the lines approx horzoontal with the tap outlet level.

this is an easy problem to solve. DO NOT be dismayed!! nothing serious wrong.

no, they should be short and horizontal

keep them ALL at around the tap outlet level and carb inlet level (all about the same level)


but then personally I found it difficult to find room for a filter.

so did without, but will retry later to get one in


there should be NO U 'bends' especially a an upward one!! ie 'n' shaped!!

if you have a bend, it shouldnt be NO MORE than a cm or 2 in height anywhere between tap and carb inlet
