12v power outlet on new transalp, best position?
Evening folks,
I'm about to install a 12v power outlet on a XL700v Transalp, (2008) and just wondered what the general opinion is for the best place to put it and if there are any specific brackets that I should be aware of....? Thanks in advance

It really depends on what use you're going to put it to. Mine (on a Doomie) is on a home made bracket (ha ha, a flat piece of aluminium) which hangs below, and is located by, the nearside saddle bolt (I leave the side panel off as, on that side, it's purely cosmetic). I only ever use the socket to charge the battery, power my tyre compressor and, very rarely, power my heated vest. If you wanted to power a GPS, for example, somewhere near the headstock would be preferable. An advantage of the location I chose is the short wiring run from the battery. You really have to ask yourself: 1) What will I use it for and 2) do I want to hole a panel?

I installed mine on the flat grey cowling above the blinkers. I put in one on either side. Have uploaded a picture to show where they sit.

I bought my dad a 12v DIN (BMW style) plug for his XL700V.
He had it mounted on the panel, just above here the indicator goes in on one side. His has a weatherproof cap, so being face up is not so bad in the rain.... GPS can plug in, any chargers in the tank bag can plug in as can his heated jacket....just not at the same time! Same as pic above. Hadn't seen it when I was writing this response!

Power Socket
My new Power Socket fitted to the right side black fairing.. All waterproof for under £10.
or You can get a Honda 12V DC Socket Kit for around £50. which fits under the seat...
