02 XRL650 Carby

Carby woes,
As I was tinkering with my carby to try and get it right as you do if you own a XRL, I was wondering if a late model XR600R carby would slot in place of the old one. My current problem child is the original one, a pain in the ar#%.

Has anyone made this conversion or heard of it being done and did it run better?

Cheers
Fles

Never hear about one!

I am member of the 650L forum in Yahoogroups and what all do is "unkorke" the carb by rejetting and opening the holes from the slide(i didnĀ“t).
Or change the thing for a EDELBROCK carb.
Not an easy task. What problems do you have?
Saludos

yes a xr600 carb makes a gas respons improvement and helps get the horses that are in there. i should slot strait in.
on the other hand take a look at this website:
http://www.4strokes.com/tech/honda/xr650lcarbmods/
it olso works for the nx650
i have olso seen a fcr39 carb fitted in a xr650l but no picture of that mod...talking of 50hp+..

The problems I have with it is it bogs down on the first 1/4 throttle, after that its fine. Also on the first 1/4 throttle it just wont hold a constant speed without wanting to die off.
I down loaded the directions off the 4strokes web site you's gave me and I will try the mods recommended. I will keep you's informed of my progress.

Thanks for the help

XRL Carby

To all,
I did not do all the mods that are on the 4 strokes website. I just did a bit at a time until it ran right.
I removed the restrictor washer from between the muffler and exhaust pipes. Removed the airbox snorkle (left standard honda air filter in place) and muffler baffle from original exhaust. Removed that hiddeous octupus off the motor and fitted a 160 main jet.
With these mods my XRL runs like a dream.
It may have something to do with me being in Australia, drilling out the slides and all probably works best above the equator but not down under.

Thanks to all
Fles

FCR on XR

I just fitted a FCRMX41mm to my electric start XR600.

Carb fits well - bike runs like champ. Sits and idles and runs really well.
