Jeff Powers R.I.P.

Around 10 years ago or more I start to hear about a crazy gringo who move to Cuzco-Perú and make his life there, he grown a family there and set up a pub calls Norton Rats Tavern, reference point of all a community of other crazies bike travellers of life, we have been in contact time ago by the net but our footprints couldn’t cross. This is his Norton Commando and his landscape…. R.I.P. Jeff, I hope later than sooner will come the day to ride together!!! …. Sad, very sad….

Please folks, Ride far but Ride safe

Terrible news. Is this confirmed? How did you learn of this?

I have had the good fortune to sign the guest book at the pub in Cusco. Jeff told me he rode that Norton all the way to Tierra del Fuego, as well.

Hola Andy
It’s in the Norton Rats page in Facebook and his own, family, relatives and friends are posting there from yesterday. I was searching internet and find it in Peruvians news portals too. (I saw a picture that would rather not see)
I’m still shocked and impressed. Una verdadera pena!!!
Saludos Amigo

Our deepest condolences to his family and friends. We never met, but had a number of great email conversations on a range of subjects. He was always interesting and clear about his thoughts and what he wanted to see happen. He'll be missed by many.

Norton rats

Very sad news, Jeff was the motorcycle man of Peru. I shall miss his conversation on all things from politics to whitworth spanners. My condolences to Jeff's wife.

As not on Facebook Bev and I will post our condolences here.

Jeff was an essential resource for so many people on here and he will leave a huge space in the community.

We first met Jeff by chance when arriving in Cuzco, pure chance he came up to us as we pulled over looking for a place to stay.

He gave us the first of much advice that he freely gave over the following days.

We shared many a drink in his bar and when we finally got to ride together he took us out to the Salt pans on his immaculate Commando. He then asked if we wanted the longer road route round, or the shorter ‘donkey track’, his light Norton coped somewhat better than our bike and the Martin and Alan’s 1150 Adventurers, but what an experience. Later we had an alliteration with some drunk drivers on the road back and we all ended up in what could have been a nightmare situation as we involved the police and ended up going see a judge. Without Jeff God knows what would have happened, quite an experience. Jeff was staunch in his belief of ‘doing the right thing’.

We know Jeff has assisted countless travellers passing through and gave willingly, the fact he had a bar didn’t influence his actions. For sure it was a great place to hang out and all of us that passed through will remember Jeff with great affection and pass on our condolences to his family and friends.

A very sad loss, but a very great legacy and fond memories of great times.

RIP friend, Fritz y Bev.

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
