Insurance for Mori and West Africa?

A couple of quick questions:

- What is the correct rate for 4x4 insurance at the Mori border currently (and euro exchange rate?). Previously the guy always tries to charge double etc

- Previously I have bought insurance for many West Africa countries (Mali etc) from a guy in Nouakchott who the owner of Auberge Sahara would call. Does anybody know what this insurance is called? Still available through Auberge Sahara or Menata in NKCHT?

Many thanks!

Hi folks

I got an email from Ollie who was asking me about my route down the west coast. I thought I'd put the question on here to pick the community's brains, rather than just mine.

Ollie should appear in due course. :)

Here's Ollie's question:

Getting to Goma, DRC, for the gorillas

I'm in Uganda at the moment, and am considering going to Goma in the DRC to see the gorillas.

Does anyone have up to date information for this, and details as to what is necessary (ie: where to get visas, any issues on the border, where to get gorilla permits, where to stay, current safety situation etc?)

Thanks
Steve

Hi,

does anyone know if it would be possible to buy a motorbike in Sudan and ride it back home to the UK? I am mostly concenrned about the the Carnet which will be needed for egypt, or is it possible to just buy a temporary entry permit? and also how long would i legaly be able to ride the bike in the UK?

I will be working for an NGO in Sudan so hopefully buying a small 125cc bike will be easy enough.

Jan 2010: Ouarzazate-Timbuktu-Dogon-Dakar adventure

Peter Buitelaar from Bikershome.net (http://www.bikershome.net) is organising a 20-day Timbuktu/Dogon/Dakar adventure starting from Ouarzazate in January 2010 for what sounds like an incredibly good value price of €600 (that's less than £30 per day).

Image: http://www.infar.co.uk/tim/gs/Hombori.jpg

You ride your own bike and the support 4x4 carries all the heavy gear. Accommodation is mainly wild camping. Your other main costs would be fuel and food/drink.

It's also possible to organise bike transport from the UK/Germany/Holland to Malaga or Marrakech for people joining the tour.
