What calipers fit?

Hi guys, finally managed to get my winter project running took the calipers off today with the intention of a strip and refurb only to find that they are both siezed and corroded beyond repair as well as both having the bleed nipples sheared off!:(

Does anyone know of any alternative calipers that fit the 90's XT600e?

Ive had a trawl round the forum but havent found a definative answer.
I understand that a DTR 125 rear caliper fits but cant find any mention of an alternative front caliper.

Cheers

Hi, I'm in Vermont USA and most riders have already retired their rides for the year. I was on craigslist two weeks ago and came across a 1988 Yamaha XT600 for $1,000. 9,000 miles, pretty much stock, only with a bigger gas tank & a Cobra exhaust. I emailed the guy and ended up buying it for $800 a week later. YEY! So now I have my 89 XT and this 88 one. My 89 has been painted black with tons and tons of home-made mods done to it, so it's nice to get this one in pretty much original state. I drove it back to my place last weekend (only 2 hours), but it was cold & rainy...so the 2 hours were plenty. She rode really nice. Good power, that exhaust sounds damn nice! Front brakes are toast, so I'll have to flush and get new pads. Tires are still good. Handlebars are pretty crooked, but Renthal's are on their way already. I look to take the Cobra exhaust off this one & putting it on my black 89. The stock exhaust will go on the 88. I'd like to switch the gas tanks as well, but if I do, I'll need to paint it black, which I don't really want to do. So, before I retire the bikes (mid-December sometime, hopefully later), I'm looking at tweaking: - new handlebars - valves adj. - carb cleaning - oil change - air filter (at least lube it), it looked in good shape - blinker housing is pretty messed up (I still haven't figured out why the blinkers sometimes work, sometimes don't), but it might need a new switch. I'll dig into it this weekend. - seat cover (one little rip), but I'm anal that way - get front brake working - Oh and the tach & speedo clear plastics are so cracked that I can't see what it says underneath it unless I get close & personal w/ it. I'll be on the lookout for new glass or new units all together. The black one will just get normal winter prep work done, the new one requires a bit more. I love these bikes Safe miles all ;)

XTZ660 charging problem?

Hi all.
I have a problem with the charging system on my XTZ660 Tenere, the battery has gone dead a few times now after about 1 week from being fully charged.
So I decided to get the multimeter out to do some tests.

The DC Voltage output is 12.20V from idle to 3000 rpm, If I rev it up to 5000 rpm it increases to about 12.70V then drops to 12.30V again. At 3500 rpm it slowly increases to around 13.50V, if I rev it up again to 4000 - 5000 rpm it drops to around 12.30V again.
The manual tells me it should be 14V at 5000 rpm, so I guess some thing is wrong. right?

I have done more tests, such as having the battery load tested at a bettery shop..... it checked out fine, it is a good battery too, a DEKA power sports AGM.

Had the stator tested and it checked out fine, all 3 phases putting out 0.3 ohms.

I checked the AC output of the stator too, unfortunately I did this wrong by not unplugging the connection to the regulator/rectifier, but my readings were 10 - 11 volts at 5000 rpm. (I realized this was wrong after i had removed the stator, so i can't check the proper way just yet).
I also tried a backyard test by connecting wires from a 100 w spot light in to all three phases, it lit up bright and even across all three phases.

All wire plugs/connections have been checked and appear to be in good condition.

So after all this i bought a new regulator/rectifier, thinking this must be the problem. I got an Electrex one.
I plugged that in, and nothing changed.

I have now taken the the stator out too have a look for any signs of being burnt out, it looks fine.

Anybody have any ideas as to what the problem is??,
i'm stumped cause everything has checked out in good order.

thanks

I contacted the chap a while back & after doing the deal, got it today :thumbup1:

It looks a bit bigger in the "flesh" :eek3: but beats having to fill up every couple of days :nono:

I have also aquired an Ohlins shock which I'll be fitting in the near future

As per the title im currently trying to rewire a 1996 xt600e that was previously stolen recovered and had no wiring loom when i bought it and have managed to make up one good loom from 2 old looms i sourced on ebay and now have pretty much everything connected up (I think!) except one wire! Its a black wire with a male bullet connector that runs from the loom along side the connector that goes to the starter relay and it seems to have nowhere to connect to??.

I have attached a pic with the wire circled in red.

Any help with this would be grately appreciated as ive spent the best part of a week trying to sort this out and am now stuck!!

I was wrong. Ive opened the old beast up again now to find that the "new" 5th gear as well as the old 4th need replacement! F**ck!
Anyways Ijust thought Id share that in case anyone thinks, like I did, that their 5th gear troubles were over.:nono:

Xt600 Cdi For Sale

I am slowly getting rid of all my XT600 bits and came across a genuine Yamaha CDI. It came from a 1984 bike but will do newer bikes too.
Part number on the unit is *34L-50*

It came of a running bike and has all of it's plugs and connectors intact.

These are about £80 to buy (and that's a pattern one - not a Yamaha part).

£40 including postage (UK) overseas postage will be at cost.
If no one here wants it it's going where all the other stuff goes (Ebay)
Paypal is best for me - but I'm pretty flexible when it comes to money:thumbup1:

I am slowly getting rid of all my XT600 bits and came across a genuine Yamaha CDI. It came from a 1984 bike but will do newer bikes too.
Part number on the unit is 34L-50

It came of a running bike and has all of it's plugs and connectors intact.

These are about £80 to buy (and that's a pattern one - not a Yamaha part).

Carb rubber query

I'm putting the engine back together after a lot of hassle getting the old exhaust headers out (see other threads, had to take cyl head off). The carb rubbers have split into two pieces - not a split in the rubber, but the rubber tube part has separated from the metal part that bolts to the cylinder head. I can't see how this would work, as there is nothing actually holding the carbs in place - just the rubbers for the airbox and the rubbers for the intake. I'm guessing that the rubber and metal should be bonded together. But in the parts catalogue they are listed as two separate parts - Joint, Carburetor 1 and 2, 43F-13586-01 and 1VJ-13596-00 - so they must be designed to separate.

Do I need new rubbers, or is it correct to put the halves back together with some kind of sealant?

Second question: there is no room to get the carbs between the head and the air filter stubs. Do I have to dismantle the airbox to get them in? All advice gratefully received.

I've stopped work because a) it is dark, and b) I'm starting to get into bodge-it-and-bang-it mode. Sadly, it looks like the little feller won't be back on the road for another week. :(
