Turkish border near Ipsala

Can anyone tell me where, within the Turkish border crossing area near Ipsala on the E90/D110, the office is where you purchase insurance for the 'bike please? Is it the same office that issues the visas or in the area of duty free shopping? Any current information as to the cost of insurance would also be appreciated. My UK insurer is quoting ridiculous rates for a Green card. Many thanks.

I haven't used that border crossing, but at immigration and vehicle registration they do ask for your greencard, and if it doesn't cover Turkey they'll send you to the insurance booth anyways, so don't worry about finding it ;-)

I don't know about prices, as my insurance was good for Turkey. If you're feeling lucky, you could ask your insurer for a policy that covers the European part only. At immigration that'll do, and nobody will check where else you roam afterwards (so long as you don't kill anyone).

İpsala bordergate named Dereköy between Turkey and Greece is the most modern and up to date bordergate of Turkey.Small area before the bridge..On the window of the boot its written Sigorta as a sign..Ask the customs officer,or visa officer. They are very close to each other. Its a private insurance agent not government.
Important...If its a bike, tell the officer that its a motocycle. So you dont have to pay more..Price for 3 months about 5 euros..11 TL. For cars 36 TL. (17Euros) If your number plate starts with Q,X or W, may take some time.Otherwise very fast.
Last week 2 Australian, this week 1 Slovenian and 1 American rider passed this border and visited our club. Also the same price in İstanbul for bikes entering Turkey by airfreight.
Between Thesalonıkı and İstanbul there is a bicycle run for university students that will end on Wednesday. Our club members are guiding the cyclists.

Welcome to the paradise...

Exactly.
When I and a mate of mine rode to Turkey, Syria and Jordan in 2008, my mate realized at that border station of Ipsala that he lost his green card.
They pointed him to a desk between the vehicles' lanes where an insurance policy was issued in a few minutes.
I don't remember the cost, though, I'm sorry (but it was absolutely competitive if compared to Italian ones...).

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
