Warsaw spring 2006
Hi brothers,

planing to ride from Lisbon,Portugal ,to Poland in the spring of 06.
Would be glad to get my hands on any helpfull info.
Any local bykers around?

Don't you believe him .
Poland is not dangerous . I was there a little while ago and had no trouble. I was stopped once by the police but they only said I must ride with my lights on at all times . When overtaking lorries they often pull over to let you pass . I have not seen that in any other country . The only problem with the roads is that some have grooves in them from the heavy lorries. These are not a problem unless it is dark .

I am in Poland until end of August with my DR 650.

Poland is not dangerous. Just be careful for theft. Do not leave stuff on your bike if you're going sightseeing. Also, always preferable to put your bike in a garage or safe parking overnight, and chain it. But that applies to almost all countries. There's bike thieves everywhere.

As mentionned before, the roads are quite often grooved because of heavy truck traffic all around the country. Truck drivers do move over to let you pass. Only real danger are impatient drivers trying to pass; they have a tendency of tailgating that is a bit annoying.

On small countryside roads, be careful for slow tractors, cyclists and wandering dogs in villages.

Otherwise, lodging and food is quite cheap. Fuel available all over the place. Beaufiful country with a lot to offer. Do not miss Krakow, Wroclaw and Gdansk.

Note that because of the lack of highways, your progression through the country will be much slower than, let's say France or Germany. Keep that in mind when planning your trip time wise.

Hi there,

I've been in Poland in last July and we had no problems with thiefs as told. Poland is the same as any other country, you have to be careful and park your moto always in garages. For me the worst problem in Poland are the roads, I loved the country! I've been in Krakow, Warsow, Gdansk and Poznan. If you need some advices you're welcome to ask, send me an email and we can talk in Portugues !

The salt mines at Wieliczka are well worth a visit if you are in the area. We parked our bikes up in a nearby car park and the car park wardens made sure all our luggage was safe and let us put our helmets in their hut.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB.
