Ukraine Russian border

Hi. Due to the landslide in Georgia I may need to plan a new route back into Europe (Uzbekistan currently).
Does anyone have current information on the Russian/Ukrainian border crossing points? Most likely NE of Kiev, but any information is welcome.

I understand that a big humanitarian convoy just entered Ukraine from Russia, somewhere in the East... maybe try that location, it looks like the border is pretty porous there...

Came over from Ukraine from the city of Sumy along r H7 (on the ukranian side) and to Kursk in Russia around 6 days ago. Cant remember what the bordercrossing point was called. The bordercrossing was smooth but we were advised by locals in Sumy Ukraine to not go any further east in the country.

From Central Asia there are some options to reach Europe not via Ukraine. You can go to the ferry in Kazakhstan (Aktau) to Azerbaijan (Baku) and further to pass through Turkey. It is possible to travel over the Caspian Sea and through Russia (Astrakhan) and Azerbaijan to Turkey. It is possible via Moscow through Belarus (the visa is necessary, but transit is not difficult to receive) It is possible to go to the north and via Finland.

safe Ukraine border crossing points

To answer my own post & give up to date information on the Ukrainian border.....I crossed into Ukraine yesterday afternoon , 30.08.14, no problems whatsoever. I met a Ukrainian truck driver in Uzbekistan who showed me the open border crossings on a map, basically any crossing point including and west of Belgorod is ok. I took the smaller road from Kursk through Ligov, P199, that heads directly west to the Ukrainian border. No raised eyebrows or questions about me entering Ukraine, nothing out of the ordinary apart from some fresh sandbag bunkers on each checkpoint.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
