UK to Turkey October 2013

I am off to Turkey from the UK in October (motorcycle).

I have not put together any route plans at all yet, and before I do I thought I would ask you folks here for any recommendations as to what might be good, or good to avoid! I have not spent any time going through the parts of Europe that lead there, I usually head for Morocco so it will all be new to me.

I have 3 weeks available to do the return trip, it's a visit a relative jaunt then pretty much turn around again. The other half is flying but I can't be putting up with all that nonsense, it clearly makes so much more sense to just go for a spin.

I will be very grateful for you advice, and cheers to those that offer it :thumbup1:

October ?!
going to be cold... unless you stick to the south-west or the sea side...

inner Turkey got a lot of high mountains... average 1300m to 2600m above sea level... found some leftover snow on some mountain pass track (main road) end of June in 2300m

the south would be OK I guess...

Where does your relly live? We are in Kas on the Turkish Med. It's nice here. Bulgaria is nice to come through. Maybe a stop at Doug's motocamp on the way through.

Cheers,

Dicky

Very nice photos :thumbup1:

I'm heading to Turkey this summer, so also very interested in any route information, especially quiet off the beaten track areas.

Rode UK to Turkey last year. See my blog www.oldfartsonabike.blogspot.com.au for details of route etc. Ferry-hopped France, Corsica, Sardinia, Italy, Greece and then rode into and around W. Turkey.

For what its worth we are away to Turkey from the Uk also this year. Our planned route is across Germany, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania Bulgaria and then into Turkey.

Nothing is booked except the ferry. We chose this route as it looks more direct and at the end of April/ early May when we are travelling we thought it made more sense as opposed to Alps etc. Also possibly a bit cheaper than other parts of Europe.
