UK - Southern Spain 19/05-03/06/07
 

Firstly I apologise if this is in the wrong place.

Well I am 26 and currently riding a Yamaha R6. not a grand tourer I know but it does score high :funmeteryes: For this trip I shall be travelling alone although it would be good to meet with people on route.

So here goes :

Well I have no plans as yet other than what is in the title but earlier today I decided that I would take a 2 week holiday. It was alread booked for other reasons that have now been cancelled. Rather than swapping holidays I thought what better way to spend the time than clocking up some serious miles.

So on Friday the 19th of may I shall head south to the channel tunnel and then I guess I will be making a right turn. http://www.yamahaclub.com/forums/sty...lt/biggrin.gif

Other than that I will be planning it from here on in.

Any advice of routes, places to stay and visit will be much appreciated. Previous experiences? Really any information from rider out there. As to a final destination I am not sure yet either

I guess sticking as coastal as possible after entering spain it will be

Barcelona, Valencia, Alicante then Murcia, Granada, Malaga, Marbella, Gibraltar.

What I would like is a few realaxing beach days and then some time in the moutains of Andalusia.

I did a similar trip last year, but we came thru the tunnel and straight down! If you have time I would suggest Andorra, beautiful country and not a straight road in sight.

I work in Gibraltar and it does have some great historical stuff and of course the apes. Malaga a great city the old part especially. But lastly, a true bikers paradise the Andalucían mountains, winding roads and next to no traffic. In about 30 minutes you can go from sea level to 1000+ meters, excellent views on most days.

This is a great part of the world for biking and every day is a biking day down here. :)

Straight down
 

Don't forget that there are other routes into France. Pretty much due south from Burton is Portsmouth which has a ferry to Caen which takes out some of the mile crunching of riding in northern France. It puts you close to the D-day beaches (the ferry docks very close to Pegasus bridge) and lines you up to go to places that you've heard of like Mont St Michel (touristy but worth it). Normandy is the land of butter, cheese, and especially cider, pommeau and calvados.

Oh, I nearly forgot, there's some knitting at Bayeux.

Thanks for the comments. Would it be too amibitious to spend a couple of days in Tangier?

If you are in Gibraltar, then Algeciras is only 10km away and this is the main ferry port between Europe and North Africa. Ceuta is the usual destination and is only a 30 minute ferry trip. I believe that Tangier is about an on the ferry. Both reasonably cheap

If anybody does stay here, please tell Marie (who speaks very good English) that Alison & Andy who were travelling on 2 blue motorbikes (XT600E's) with big metal panniers (Metal Mules) last September, made it back to Spain safely and enjoyed every minute of it. We hope to visit this place again some day.
