Travelling to the Baltics

We are leaving 10th July, 4 bikes from Israel to the Baltic area: Poland Latvia Lithuania Estonia. are there any warnings, hints, tips suggestions? We heard crime rate is high. Is it safe to camp out? do we need that extra bribe cash? what is the tipe of the cellular net? etc.
thanks a lot

Hi Yoni,
I was in Poland last year and we had no problems at all. We had been warned that the police like to stop tourists and fine you for speeding, but we had no experience of this. All the locals were very friendly and interested in our bikes when we stopped. We camped and had no problems with security. I suspect that the people who have trouble are in cars and look like they have lots of money.
My tip : look poor.

Thank you Richard
Your comment helps. I'm taking my old riding suit, and bought an extra lock. and most of all I'm happy I'm not rich...
Since others did not respond I understand the Baltics have no real problems for bikers, to write about.
Tomorrow the biks will be loaded on the ferry to Europe.

Thank you all

We had a top box broken into in Breslau (Poland) in Aug. 2001 on a campsite. The Police were very helpful and provided a crime report for the insurance claim.

I've thought about travelling to St. Petersburg via Estonia etc - have been warned that crime is high, especially in the Russian areas, with foreign vehicles a prime target.

Even in Poland, it's hard to look poor. If you venture in to the countryside, it's like going back in time 50 years. Even on a battered 175,000 mile K100, I probably looked like a millionaire to the old woman collecting water from a roadside puddle......

well I'm back from the Baltics.
Here is a short report:
1)Good hospitality. helpful and modest people.
2)Polite police.
3)Lots of money machines.
4)Hardly any bikes. we saw most of them in Estonia (some 20-30). In all route we saw 8 scooters.
5)Hardly any campgrounds. Bad showers filthy lavatories.
6)Lots of well equipped super and mini markets.
7)Boaring flat landscape. highes hill-150m in lita.
8) good water.

Hope it will help others.
