Transalpina

Hi All,

I have heard that the transalpina has been resurfaced. Is this correct? Planning a trip to eastern europe this August/September and want to do the Transfagarasen highway. We will be riding Triumph Tiger 800 XC but a few of us could be on Tiger 1050 or even a Street Triple.

Anyone have any recent experience of the road conditions in this region?

Thanks

Hi,

I've been on Transalpina last summer. The road was a work site. You can use it if you want, but be prepared to dodge workers, cranes and heavy machinery. Romania is not a place renowned for the speed of motorway execution, so 2011 might be an optimistic deadline.

However if you still want good tarmac and bendy roads, you can use Transfagarasan motorway afterwards.

Good luck.

Hi there,

I was also riding through the Transylvanian alps last summer (BMW F650 GS) and used the 67C from Dobra, then the 7A to Voineasa and on to Brezoi.

If I remember rightly, the 67C was OK, but the 7A involved some forestry track - some of which was quite muddy due to ongoing maintenance and logging.

That being said, it wasn't particularly difficult riding, you'll just need to take care. Personally, I felt it was one of the best day's riding on my entire trip, but then again I'm partial to a bit of mud!

The area is stunning and any road you take to traverse the alps will reward you with incredible scenery.

Best of luck
