Smile Off-road & Accommodation on Corsica Oct 2008

Hi there
I’ll be on Corsica from 19th to 25th October with a van and 2 bikes (1x road bike and 1x light weight enduro bike) as well as camping gear.

I have 3 queries:

1. Are you there then too? Do you want to ride together, particularly off road/on dirt roads/tracks?

2. Can you recommend any dirt road routes? I’ve got a 1:180.000 “AA Touring Map France series” map of Corsica in front of me and not many are marked. Just start/finish points would be good. I can work out the bits in between. Is there a better map I can buy? Might you even have any GPS data to share with me?

Road riding is easy. Just look for the least-straight lines on the map, so I’m sorted on that. I’ve also downloaded some GPS routes/tracks/waypoints from www.naviboard.de .

3. Accommodation: Every campsite I’ve researched on Corsica seems to be closed either end-September or mid-October. Can I camp in your garden? Do you know any Gite d’Etapes that are open (and pleasant)?

Where I base myself depends on the weather, but if it’s ok inland I read that Corte is a good base for dirt road riding. What do you think?

Thanks for any input you can give.

Ride safely,
Chris

How did your trip go? I've only ridden on the roads of Corsica, never off-road, but what roads they were!!! Phenomenal twisties (Col de Verghio springs to mind), great surfaces (at least usually) and fantastic weather. Somewhere I'd love to return to soon...

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
