Tolls in Norway

Planning a trip to the Arctic circle thro Norway and return via Finland , Estonia etc . I am travelling the length of Norway and looking at the maps the obvious route is on the E6. I cant find any info on the charges . Does anybody know what I can expect to pay in tolls. If cost is prohibitive I will have to look at smaller roads and extend the length of time to do it. I have given myself 6 weeks to do the whole trip but that is very flexible. Got to keep costs down cos its a charity ride Solo Bike Tour for Cancer with Julians Restaurant, Hoylake

We rode from Bergen to Nordkapp - the only toll we paid was at the tunnel on the way to Nordkapp. Afew years ago, so things may have changed.

The Nordkapp 'toll' is expensive I think around 80Euros (can someone confirm this)?

I was told by friends that had been to Nordkapp in April that the toll for the Tunnel and last few kms was only during peak season, outside of the high season (May-Sept) the road and tunnel is free.

As for other parts of Norway, bikes travel free, no tolls. BUT there are a lot of ferry crossings if you go along the coast an out to islands so put that in your budget otherwise you'll get stung.

Tolls and trolls...

Hi Jules,

The Nordkapp tunnel toll for cars is £15 EACH WAY and then about the same to enter the visitor centre Norkapphallen.

Be aware that there now automated tolls on the motorway sections around Olso and Trondheim. It's a numberplate recognition system administered by Europark in London so they know who you are! There's no need to stop and pay, just ride through and you get a bill delivered to your door sometime in the following 3 months. £6.23 for Trondheim and about the same for Oslo. You can avoid them by keeping off the motorway.

The only other toll on the E6 is the Bognes-Skaberget ferry, around a tenner IIRC.

Happy trails,

Jojo

Bikes are free, through Trondheim at least. I just rode through the autopay booth. This was in 2008, things may have changed since.

In summer 2010 I drove from tromso to oslo on the E6, and I only paid a few euros for 1 ferry on the wohle route - can't remeber the exact price, but it was really only a few bucks. I asked a cashier in a supermarket: motorbikes are free in trondheim and oslo. and I think he was right, because I didn't get any bills or trouble at the ferry. I can't report about tolls further north, sorry.

All road tolls are free for motorcycles in Norway. You do need to pay for ferries, but not much. And from what I know, you don't need to take any ferries on E6.

Just want to add a little info. It´s one ferry on the E6.
25 minutes journey, the cost is NOK 55/ EUR 7.
Do you have a route planned for the trip?

Nord Capp

I read somewhere that a biker visited Nord Capp and didnt have to pay because he went very early in the morning .

tolls in norway

Hello,

we have been there in the end of June 2010. The only tolls have been the tunnel to Nordkapp (approx. 18 EUR for both directions, one person on bike) and the entrance fee for Nordkapp. In total (tunnel and entrance fee) approx. 45 EUR per motorcycle with one driver.

They have installed a lot of automatic toll systems (i. e. around Trondheim and Bodo). Motorcycles are free (perhaps for tech reasons).

But it is possible that you have to pay for some small roads (not for E6). And don't forget to calculate the ferries (i. e. on RV17).

Kind regards,
Marc

We drove from UK to Tromso spending a month in total. All the manual tolls had been replaced with automatic number plate recognition gadgets so we thought we'd got away with it....until 2 months ago when a bill arrived from some "European Tolls Agency, UK division" showing us a photo of our vehicle and a list of all tolls incurred in ONE area. It was only about 30 quid, but i'm expecting more to arrive soon.....
