I plan to go to England and Scotland this summer and what is the best Mobil phone card to get to have the best covering. And any tips where can I get it is it possible to order it from Sweden so I have it in the phone when I arrive in the UK?

O2 and Vodafone do good deals but depends what offers they have on. I always used Vodafone and I think most would say they have the best coverage but often slightly more expensive.

I decided to try out this one , just because international calls are supposed to be cheap , and because it was easy (and nearly free) to buy over the internet. No idea about coverage though, but as a "virtual" network it shouldn't be particularly bad.

Your question is wide open to further questions about what you want to do with your phone - 2G, 3G, whatever.

Here is one website from dozens that come up with a quick search:-
Best Mobile Coverage - Compare 3G, 2G, Mobile Broadband - Which Mobile Phone Network Has The Best Signal Coverage?
It confirms my understanding that the UK is saturated with mobile phone masts and there is nothing in it for the coverage.
Yes for the last post; Lycamobile is probably as good as any; I haven't used them, but their product is all over the high street re-seller shops.
You could also check out giff gaff (another search) but they are having a few problems recently, if you see some of the review forums.
Such offers give the SIM card away, usually with some credit included; it is a buyers market!

If you want to use a phone for just a few weeks then it would be worth checking out the roaming charges for whoever you use currently?

I've found Orange to be good in Scotland, The Lake District and where I live in the Yorkshire Dales. Indeed only Orange works here. They are also linked to T Mobile now so extra coverage in marginal areas. You should be able to get an Orange sim on a Dolphin, no contract plan where your only commitment will be to top up by £10 a month to get free internet and 400 free texts, You can probably wangle a magic number out of them too if you persist - 25p for upto 1 hour.

I definitely don't have any connection to Orange btw except that I have no choice but to use their services

I've had T-Mobile for maybe 10 years now and have no complaints. Their hook up with Orange means in theory better coverage in more areas, but its usually the case that if one doesn't work another will. My phone won't work at all at my Dads house by the toaster, but his Vodaphone will.

Other than Three supposedly being pants in general, there probably isn't much between Orange, T-Mobile, Vodaphone and O2 averaged over the whole of mainland UK. I don't know about data rather than just calls and texts.

Orange has deals on the cinema though

I don't see why you can't order online? Or just walk into any shop on arrival?

Jason
