Stuck in Budapest

Hello All,
The question below does not include M/C travel. But I do trust the information from fellow riders who has been around. So here i go.

Some of my close friends ar stuck in BUdapest doe to the Volcano euroption in Iceland. The airport is shut and they are looking for way to get out of Budapest and come to ISTANBUL.
They have looked at trains and it takes a very long travel time.

Does anybody know of bus services from Budapest to Bulgaria (sofia) or Greece (Thessaloniki)?.

Do you have any other suggestions about alternatives about how to get to Istanbul overland from Budapest?

And last, they can travel to Austria, are there any busses that you know departing from Austria?

Your information is greatly appreciated.

Regards

Hi nomadb,
There is a bus service from Budapest (Nepliget bus station) to Sofia and also to Athens or Thessaloniki provided by Volanbusz, Eurolines. You can search here

Good luck! Maybe you'll have better luck with the phone on Monday morning.

Final Verdict

Okay let me summarise the result of the case.
The Volans Bus numbers never repplied. My friends went to the bus station and couldn't get any information al was closed.(Sunday after 16:00).

Community member B. Jani helped with another link in Budapest
http://www.bolgarok.hu/index.php?id=14
but they were closed on sunday as well. Thank you Jani.

So my colleagues took a very sloow train at 23:00PM to Bucharest. The arrived the next day aroun 16:00 or so.
A fellow rider Dan picked it from there. He found the service from Bucharest to Istanbul.

Ortadogu Turism +90(212) 5127746 or +90(212) 6327646
(Sorry no web site). They appear to have 2 busses running daily.Leaving Bucharest at 15:00 and 17:00. The journey is 11 to 12 Hours. Thank you Dan for the help.

They will be home tomorrow morning.

Just for information,
- There is another company called Metro Tourism which has 5 busses daily from Sofia.
Metro Turizm
Fairly large bus company also operating all over Turkiye.

-Varan has service from Vienna to Istanbul I guess daily as well. Varan also well known and established operator.
Varan Turizm

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
