Insurance in Germany for foreign bike

Hey guys,
Nothing like a last minute adventure... On Monday I'm flying to Germany to borrow a friend's bike for 2 weeks of riding around the Alps and another week following the Tour de France. The bike is registered in the US but stored in Germany. I'm told I need to purchase liability insurance that will cover me throughout the EU. Any advice on where/how I can go about getting this? Thanks so much and pardon my ignorance!

Take a look at the sticky threads in the forum "trip paperwork" - you don't have long to read them (!), but everything you could possibly want to know about "green card" insurance is in there.

Sounds like the ADAC (automobile club in Germany) is the place to go. Will do so when I arrive, Thanks!

If you get stuck on insurance for some reason, contact Stefan Knopf (Google). He makes it very convenient--higher prices, great service.

Yes, BUT there is recent information that
1. Euro "Green Card" insurance may no longer be available from any/ all
ADAC offices (as it has been in the past);
and
2. the insurance is still available--as markhaff says--from
Green Card

So, given your short timeframe, and depending on where you are
landing in Germany and picking up the bike, you may save yourself
time & hassle by contacting Stefan Knopf first, rather than any
ADAC office.

I would even suggest you email or tel Stefan directly before leaving the US if possible, as
there are still paperwork timeframes to deal with.

EU Insurance (Green Card) is becoming increasingly expensive for bikes of foreign registry. I recently bought insurance from Arisa Assurance SA in Luxembourg for 105€ for 30 days. Their website URL is ARISA Assurances S.A.
The site is in French or German, but they speak excellent English. Not sure if they will insure a bike titled to a third party, but you can always ask.
