Spot Messenger from Turkey?

Hi,

I am at the moment in Bulgaria and my Spot Messenger has started to loose satellite signal.
I think I will need to get new unit (before heading further east) but not sure if Istanbul Touratech has one?
SPOT SATELLITE MESSENGER :: HOME PAGE -pager shows only one retailer in Istanbul:
Delta Aviation (Havacilik) Ltd.
Turan cd. 13, Kat 1
Istanbul
34416
+90 212 278 7600
www.deltaair.com.tr

Just cannot find this place from google maps, so if someone is familiar with Istanbul addresses, can you please send GPS coordinates.

Thanks in advance,
Hemuli

Try first with fresh batteries and/or contact SPOT support. They sent me new one quite fast without extra charge.

Sometimes there is also some delays on when tracking seen on web.

Which SPOT you have?

Thanks Ilpo, I have done both and it still cuts the signal (can be seen from Where is Hemuli? | Riding round the world and tracking from the the upper left).
Spot support just asked me to buy a new unit (ok, my unit is 2 years old, but would expect it to last longer).

Been using Spot now for 2 years and it has never left around 50km areas without a mark... so something fishy in my unit.

I use, Spot Messenger II

With my SPOT 2 had yesterday same thing. Did not mark my route for ~100km. There is something wrong with the satellites or their servers. Observe for couple of days how it goes.

Hemuli:

The SPOT devices don't work everywhere in the world. They are capable of picking up the GPS satellite signals from everywhere in the world, but they have to transmit their position (derived from the GPS satellites) to the GlobalStar communications satellites, and the GlobalStar satellites - there are only 3 of them - don't have universal coverage.

I ferry aircraft around the world for a living, and I have noticed that there are some pretty big holes in the SPOT coverage - notably the Bering Strait, and most of the South Pacific.

If you take a look at GlobalStar's coverage map: click here, you will see where the gaps are. Turkey is not in one of the gap areas, so, it could be that your device itself is not working properly.

I did the whole circuit of Turkey and had no problems at all

There are more than 3 satelleites, there are 66, but at some stages they may not be visible in some parts of the world and you need at least three to get a good fix on where you are

Cheers
