Hej,

usually the authorities will cash in the ticket on the border when you leave turkey. They'll check their network and if they'll find something there will be no choice for you than to pay.

There is always a small chance if the guys at the speed trap have problems with uploading their data, or the network is down at the time you'll pass the border.

Good luck!

Or alternatively....

I'm still in touch with a couple of guys (Aussies) who've just left Turkey in the last fortnight, they got caught speeding in eastern turkey and were issued with a fine. The advice from the police? If you're not coming back to Turkey, just chuck the ticket away once you cross the border! Which is exactly what they did!

We had this discussion recently in a German forum. The information, current as of 2010-06, that was presented there is:
  • Speed limit still 70 km/h
  • Current fines:
  • - up to 77 km/h (10% above limit) they won't fine
  • - 78 bis 90 -> 65 Euro
  • - 91 bis 100 -> 130 Euro
  • - above 101 km/h -> even higher fine, no details known at this point
  • It's not possible to pay on the spot anymore (anti corruption measure). Usually 3 cops now
  • The fine will be entered into the police database and can be checked at the border. However, the system currently doesn't seem to work and people have left with unpaid tickets recently and weren't asked to pay the fine at the border. So, don't ask, don't tell.
  • Unpaid fines will attract interest after a month, no more than original fine, i.e. can't increase above twice the original fine
Hope that helps.

Cheers

Two weeks ago we've been cought doing 93 km/h. :censored:

The cop told us we'll be fined at the border automatically ie. the ticket will be entered in the computer system and linked to my passport.

In the meantime, we've exited Turkey, entered it again and left it at Edirne. Noone ever asked about the ticket and i kept my mouth shut. :innocent:

So, i guess i will be asking for a new passport next time i'm visiting Turkey. :eek2:

We live in neighboring Bulgaria and go to Turkey all the time. We have speeding tickets, enter and leave the country with no problems whatsoever. One of my friends has tickets from 2008 and still nothing. Regard them as warnings. Best place for spirited riding.

Corruption?! Trying to bribe a Turkish police officer is unnecessary and very dangerous thing to do!!! You will never feel harassed or mistreated by them and don't even think about bribing them as most take a great deal of pride in what they do. Be very respectful and compliant. In some places they will tell you not to take pictures but it's always reasonable.

Ride safely though!

In August 2008 I was caught close to Antalya at 105 km/h and I was fined for 100 Euro (It had to be 130 but it was reduced to 100 by the officers themselves).
I paid directly in officers' hands, but they issued me a regular receipt with their signature and with mine, reporting all the datas of my passport and motorcycle: a regular ticket, I mean.

But I know a couple of friends of mine that were fined in central Turkey last year, and who were told by the cops that they had to pay at the border when exiting the Country.
Somehow, the custom officer at Turkey-Bulgaria borderline did not mention any speeding record from his computer: they remained silent, and finally got back to Italy without paying a cent.
