Slovenia To Greece? - Horizons Unlimited

From Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Yugoslavia, Albania?

We had not planned on travelling this route down to Greece, but were considering it now, has anyone travelled this recently?

Is following the coast a safe route?

Ok, Slovenia and Croazia.
Little more difficult, Bosnia and Yugoslavia (avoid Kossovo).
Absolutely not, Albania.

You can easely reach Greece bypassing Albania, through Macedonia, Bulgaria or South of Italy.

Just returned from such a trip. Slovenia and Croatia no problem. Make sure your insurance covers Sebia Montenegro. We were charged £35 extra by C Nash to upgrade our insurance, they failed to get the green card here in time and I was charged 50 Euro at the border (42 Euro at the Bulgarian border for the same reason). A word of advice; don't cross the Seb Mont/ Bulgaria border after dark. We did and it was scary, particularly with the frightening amount of potholes on the Bulgarian side. We were stopped at least 3 times on the Serb side by traffic cops no doubt only doing their job but when you are tired and time is cracking on it can be a bit intimidating. The road from the Bulgarian border to the Greek border is very pleasant once you have negotiated Sophia. Try not to slip on the remains of dead animals !!

HI!

No problem,Serbia & Montenegro,maybee a bit of a birocratic husle(comunism leftovers)with incurance,etc..
Absolutely avoid anarhic Kosovo & Metohia,
Albania absolutely NOT,unles u have a death wish!

Generaly very nice route,folow the Adriatic coast and go up from Montenegro(very nice mountain areas in there)than south of Serbia,and Macedonia

If u need more info or advice on what routes to take,contact me,i'll be glad to respond

I completed this trip back in June this year. A couple of people advised against travel to Albainia, but I found it and the people good, I rode through it in a day but will be going back for a longer visit.

As others have said, Slovenia and Croatia are no problem at all, I visit these countries often on my ST1100, roads are good, hotels plentiful and of a good standard, lots of people speak English, they are both entirely delightful and trouble-free places, practically on par with the rest of Western Europe.

I went through Bosnia in the summer of 2002 and was not very impressed with the place. It has a lot of troubles (economic and otherwise) that are not going to get solved anytime in the near future.

You might want to consider riding down to Dubrovnik, then hopping on a ferry that will take you to Greece. Be alert to the previously mentioned paperwork problems you will encounter making the very short (6 km) transit of Bosnia that you need to make just north of Dubrovnik.

Personally, I'd just make a trip out of Slovenia and Croatia and forget the rest - there's more than enough to do in those two countries to keep you busy for at least a month.

You might want to consider riding down to Dubrovnik, then hopping on a ferry that will take you to Greece. Be alert to the previously mentioned paperwork problems you will encounter making the very short (6 km) transit of Bosnia that you need to make just north of Dubrovnik.

Hi guys,
just for you to know there is no ferry line between Dubrovnik and Greece. The only way is Dubrovnik to Bari ( Italy ) and then departure to Greece.

Hi,
unfortunataly, there is no ferryline conecting Croatia and Greece at the moment. According my infos, it is possible for next season to have departure to Greece from somewhere on Croatian coast, but now only from Italy, Trieste or Bari, Ancona....
Check on www.jadrolinija.hr , croatian coastal servise, they can give you exact information.

Just an update as I did some of this in 2008. Bosnia was fine, really lovely, Sarajevo was really developing along, and Mostar was really nice.

Also, while it is correct you have to pass through Bosnia to Dubrovnik, from what I saw, they were not stopping anyone as almost everybody is just transiting through that very short expanse.

Of course if you are incredibly unlucky you might get pulled over or have an accident on that 10 mile stretch, but we went straight through, no questions.

Taking a look at the date the question was posted you should ask, what the issues were in 2003.
Anyway, in 2008 Albania was fine. 99% friendly people, great offroad riding on their roads and nice scenery. Some pics from my trip here.

Did Greece to Slovenia via Macedonia/Serbia/Bosnia/Croatia last summer. No probs bar Serb Police either really pleasant/grim around Kosovo, but nice away from there. Serbia very unspoiled and friendly, and Bos a real treat (the Federation side, anyway). Sarajevo a must-see IMHO. Croatia a bit so-so for me, but a fantastic coastline - poss the best i've driven. A great region to travel through, but take you time as the speedlimits are very low and the Police eagle-eyed!
