Slovenia, roads to ride and wild camping?
 

Folks,

We heading into Slovenia soon from the western border, and are hoping to wild camp as much as possible and ride some roads/ trails which are well off the beaten track so any useful experience is as always very welcome.

Lake Bled to down Croatia border is amazing as I've ridden some months ago...

I've always loved to ride south-eastern Slovenia, area of rivers, hills and woods (towns in the area are Brezice, Novo Mesto...).
In that area there's Kostanjevica na Krki, a lovely small town that I'll never forget.

I went into slovenia via the predil pass and rode down the soca valley to kobarid, :thumbup1:

We spent a few days on the northern part of Slovenia last year, Triglav National Park. Lovely area but not really off the beaten track. Many cylists and hikers and one of the most beautiful and breathtaking landscapes and nature I've seen.

Dunno about wild camping. I don't think it's legal in Slovenia, which of course doesn't mean it's not possible. Since it's not very densely populated it might be possible as long as you stay away from major settlements and national parks. Good cheap campsites tho in case you (or your presumable female company) need a shower ;)

i spent a good bit of time riding through slov 2 summers ago. just stay off the main roads and you'll find almost every road is brilliant, and yes, the road from ljubliana to croatia (any of the border crossings) is very fun. much of the time i had my zumo set to avoid any main/toll roads and it took me through forests and all sorts. RR is here and my conclusion was that slovenia was the best country for riding: Lost in Europe - ::. UKGSer.com .::

Some nice mountain/forest roads are still under snow :road to Mt.Mangart,Snežnik,some places in Trnovski gozd..If you enter from west (Gorizia/Nova Gorica?) I suggest this trip:Nova Gorica,Soča Valley to Most na Soči,enter Baška grapa (look for Podbrdo),over Petrovo brdo and Soriška planina to Bohinjska bistrica (famous lake),Bled (more famous lake),Krnica,Zg.Radovna,Mojstrana,Kranjska gora,famous Vršič pass,Trenta valley to Bovec,Kobarid,Tolmin,Most na Soči again.If you want to see capital take direction to Idrija or look for railway station and proceed to Čepovan,Lokve and Nova Gorica again.There are many mountain/forest roads but we should wait until June especially if you ride big heavy twin enduros.
I agree what fellow "mj" said about (wild)camping.

I'm actually riding down to Slovenia at the end of July any chance you'd be there about the same time and fancy meeting up for some riding / banter??

I'd like to do some off-roading too.

I am travelling to Slovenia and Croatia in May (7th - 23rd) - are the roads clear by then ?? Nigel
