Sevilla basecamp - i am un chien andalucia

Compañeros y Compañeras,

All good?

Heading south, two up, into europe next week, trying to outrun my 40th birthday. Any top tips for the sunny spanish south west, especially round seville, cadiz and tarifa? Campsites, cheap hostals, wild camping spots, beach cabinas, smiling routes for the perennially time-rich, cash-poor moto traveller?

gracias y suerte, dan (and hayley)

Hello Dan,

if you like it quite you can go to Medina Sidonia there is a nice Camping or the Hostal Sidon in the Center. Vejer de la Frontera is also a good pueblo. The owner of the Restaurant Meson la Juderia has some flats to rent.Wild camping i did some times at the beach near Bolonia.Tarifa is not my style .A lot of tourists but mabye you like it.If you plan to go to the North of Morocco in summer you can go to Asila Hotel Sahara was clean and cheap or not at the beach but very nice town Chefchaouen.Hostal Gernik is good. The bike you can leave at the parador Hotel. There is also a campsite but i havent been there for long time.

Take care

Mike

Thanks, Mike, i'll check them out. Not been to Tarifa for eleven, twelve years. It was early december, and quiet apart from shutters banging & dogs barking at the wind...

suerte, dan

+1 for Chefchaouen.

Stay for cheap, even inside the cool blue medina, surrounded by the Rif mountains-great to wander in but beware the after-dark dogs..

What you riding now Dan..? I didn't see your wheels at Ripley. I'm guessing not an Enfield, if your planning on outrunning anything..

Good times,

Gus.

Gus,

All good? Any movement?

Chefchouan would be terrific. Not been to Morocco on a bike since '99, though i had a happy week in marrakesh last year doing the chic sheik riyadh thing. But it's Spain this trip. Either on the XJ600, aka shitbike, or maybe a magazine test mule...

Suerte, Dan

Ola Dan,

No sale as yet, but movement of sorts, that could see me down in happy Herts with Nik at the weekend and commuting to steely Sheffield for the working week. Progress.

XJ600 is a splendid tool... My mate Tommy, (who's a mate of Dave one-dread, know him..?) has had one for years. Hard to break, cheap to fix, easy to walk away from.

Malaga's surprisingly nice, home of Antonio Banderas who's name, I believe, translates as Tony Flags.

Good times amigo.

Gus.

Hi Dan23,

Quite often one's opinion as a traveller about what is worth visiting may differ completely to what locals recommend you strongly to see (aka you get disappointed). So. beware, I am Andulusian, from Seville, keep that in mind, and to Southern Spain!

I really love all Cadiz province. The coast south towards Tarifa is beautiful. Bolonia was mentioned, but I am more prone to enjoy Barbate, Conil and Zahara de los Atunes (not so hippie pothead, but more traditional Spaniards). Great beaches, but beware of strong currents in late afternoon (it's almost the Straits). More inland, Arcos de la Frontera, Medina Sidonia (could actually be your way south, then to the coast, if you feel like at the time of the year), Vejer de la Frontera (btw, all "de la Frontera towns are "frontier" place during the Reconquista against the arabs, that's why the name), later maybe north avoiding Costa del Sol towards Grazalema in Sierra de Cadiz, twisty and beautiful. Ronda, typical but still wonderful, and maybe further East, to Sierra Nevada chain, visiting Las Alpujarras mountains. Really charming villages, good "serrano" in Trevelez (highest town in Spain) and spring water in Lanjaron. Way back head to Cazorla.

Doesn't try to be a route, but some names to help you decide.

Enjoy Andalusia, shouldn't say it... but it's nice...
