Vladikavkaz

Hi there,

Take the crossing at Vladikavkaz, as far as I know it is the only crossing between those coutries and you will not be disapointed.
Cheers

You can only cross into Georgia via Vladikavkaz - ride south to Kazbegi and there are good hotels there or even further south the Gudauri (the ski hill) and you will find lots of accommodation beside the expensive Marco Polo. There is also a good fuel stop in Gudauri. It is then a two hour ride into Tbilisi - longer if you stop - suggest to stop at Annanuri fortress at a minimum.

Sorry for late reply i just saw this post, yes i crossed Vladikavkaz to Georgia and then back up a few weeks later to Vladikavkaz, nice easy border crossing and very friendly on both sides.

On the Georgia side just stop in the small towns and you will get people come up to you asking if you need a home stay, not sure about accommodation the Russian side as i stayed with friends there in North Ossetia & Ingushetia but i heard of another friend who passed there and stayed in North Ossetia there are hotels available at good prices

I crossed yesterday 21/8/13, border crossing very quick, the road in Georgia was interesting to say the least, it was raining quite hard and the lack of road in parts together with the diesel made for a slow ride, it was also dark (Don't ask!) and for me a bit scary in places....someone recently described it as not for the faint hearted..I agree!
Do n't let that put you off though, Georgia itself has some stunning scenery...
