Romania, Ukraine, Georgia, Azer

I'm planning a tour to Romania, Ukraine, Georgia and possibly Azer. Any advice?
Is it true that there is a 30mph speed limit for bikes throughout Romania (hence there are hardly any there)? Has anyone had the police use this as an excuse to extract cash?

Also - is a carnet needed? And is insurance easily available for such countries?

Thanks

I was hoping to go to the same region next year. Goal was to ride around the black sea. But I gave up with the recent fights in and around Georgia. Don't think it's possible to enter.
The rest seems doable but good info is hard to find. think it is one of these region where you just have to go to and see what goes on.

When are you going?

A group of my friends went to Georgia last year, by air, and found it to be a relatively peacefull place - they managed to pursuade some soldiers to give them some "training" in how to fire machine guns.

They've just been to Azer as well, which sounds quite rough but friendly.

Thinking of going in Easter, with a man who is married to a Romanian.

Quick msg - Romania is very easy, good roads, amazing people amazing landscape.
Just on way back - will post loads of info when i get back to uk.

Go there and i defy you not to grin the whole time you are there and cry when you leave.
And i understand why your freind married a Romainan.

Three years ago I rode across Romania and Bulgaria.
They are beautiful countries, especially Romania.
However, in Romania I had to pay police for a fake ticket without receipt and, generally speaking, both in Romania and Bulgaria, I never felt myself safe.
But everything is relative: I met other travellers who didn't have the same feeling...

Hi there,

we've been in Romania this summer and it was great, exept of the untypical rainy weather this year!!
All the people are very friendly, it is cheap over there and the landscape is incredible!!
And it is allowed to drive faster than 30 mph with the motorbike.

We don't know about the other countries.
You should ask in the MRT - Forum which you can find on our homepage under "Forum"!

Good luck!

Thanks for the encouragement. I'll be going in Easter. And probably returning via Bulgaria, Turkey, Greece, Macedonia, Bosnia, Slovenia etc.
