Bulgaria / Serbia

Hi all

Looking for any up to date info and places to check out.
What about wild camping, is it save ?
Also bike insurance, is it needed and can we get it at the border?

Hi,
we run a camp site about 20 kilometres inside Bulgaria, hot showers, good toilets, 8 euros for a tent pitch. From Istanbul we would be about 5 hours, allowing for a bit of hanging around at the border crossing.
We are easy to find from the small town of Lubimetz, just follow the camping signs. The next place we know of that might be of use to you is just inside Croatia, which is about a day's run from us.
Hope you come to see us.
Martin.
Sakar Hills Camping.

The 80Euro insurance is a pain but then it lasts a year (useful, eh). As to the wild camp issue i got the impression that in Serbia it'd be ok but with heaps of people working in the fields there i reckon you'd have to really search out a quiet spot. Friendly folks, though, so i think there'd not be an issue with asking a farmer for permission - not many tourists so they're keen to put on a good face to those who do travel there . Tara NP was really pleasant and cheap g/houses too. Watch out for keen Police wielding radar guns (really low speed limits - beware) and steer clear of the Kosovo border area unless you like checkpoints . As for BiH, don't wildcamp as people still get blown up by mines not cleared from the conflict there... fantastic country though, recommended!

it was really nice meeting you. We wish you well on your travels, and, if you pass our way again in the future, hope you would look in on us.
Best wishes,
Martin and Shirley

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
