Rental Germany

Hi
Does anybody know of a good rental place for BMW or KTM in Munich that will also cover the bikes for Eastern Europe. We are 3 South Africans living in Dubai and are planning a roundtrip starting in Munich up to Praha and then down to Dubrovnik along the coast to Milan and back to Munich.Unfortunately we only have 2 weeks to do this in. Any ideas and suggestions will be appreciated.
Cheers
Kriekie

I live in Munich but I have to tell you that I am not familiar with any place that will allow you to take the bikes to eastern Germany. What you can do is try to call up BMW and simply ask these guys whether or not they can recommend a place.
Nevertheless, I'll see what I can do

Nope, I think it´s a no-go. As far as I know there are no 'Western European' rental companies that will let you take a 'Western European' registered bike into 'Eastern Europe'. This has to do with the olden days, the wall and all... The real problem is the insurance companies reluctancy to cover western regged rental vehicles in the former Eastern European countries.

When I worked at Hertz (a car rental company, I know) in the Netherlands they had a nifty little map on the back of their rental agreement showing exactly where in Europe you were allowed to drive your rental car and where not. 'Eastern Europe', including Poland, was off limits. Hertz did swaps at the border; Western reg cars, for Eastern reg cars. I doubt any motorcycle rental company has a big enough fleet to be able to offer that service.

Then again, that was 3 years ago, things might have changed. I hope you can prove me wrong

Happy riding!
