Questions about Transnistria
 

Hello,
my name is Bruno. In August, I will travel by bike to from Berlin through Poland and Ukraine to Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR). I still have some questions:
• From Chernivtsi (Ukraine), I can use the shortest way through Moldova to the PMR, but I would like to avoid Moldova and to cross the border to PMR from Ukraine. As far as I know, there is a border point from Ukraine to PMR near Camenca. Can I use this one? Which way to the PMR can you recommend?
• In the immigration card at the border, you have to fill in the address you are staying. I do not have one. Do they control, if you were registered at this address when leaving the country?
• I am searching for camping sites to put up my tent in Ukraine and PMR.
• It is said in this forum, that you have to buy an insurance for your bike in Moldova (is it true?), do I also have to buy an insurance in the PMR?
• I found this: “I've checked the website of Sberbank and it says that You can withdraw money on your MasterCard® or Maestro/Cirrus® in the ATMs or bank cashiers of "SBERBANK" and they are located on the following addresses: In Tiraspol on: 85, 25 October st.
6, Pravda st.” – Can someone confirm this? Do they also accept Visa cards?

Came through yeterday.
Hotels and big restaurants accept visa. What ever Moldovan currency .. change before you leave ,, once outside you lose 30% ,,
Make sure you buy insurance outside of the country,, no place to buy it once you are over the border,, cops will want bribery ot you go back to where you came from. Transnistra border guys looks angry and not very polite but they don't ask for bribes. Moldovan cops and customs ooozes with grease.
Whole country looks like a beautiful camp site,, and people very polite ,,,wants to use English.

3 years ago .. i don`t had problems with cash machines and bigger petrol stations in romania at all.
This "EC Card" with Master Card Symbole works fine.
Credit Card: Visa - no problem.

One Year later, i get a knew card from my bank ...
EC card with CIRRUS Symbol only (without Master Card)
and nobody from the bank informed me about this change.
I just take the new card (without looking about it),
put it in my pocket and started my trip ...

This card wasn 't accepted at many petrol stations and cash machines.
The sh ... started behind the german boarder in austria.
At shell petrol station they don`t want this CIRRUS sh ...
Hungary the same and so on.

After my trip, I had a "nice" discussion with the german bank. :stormy:

May be today its better now with cirrus.
Cirrus seems to be a new system. Not so common like Master Card.
Works only in europe ... Not like Master Card.
(i was able to get money in indonesia and north amerika with this)

But cheaper for the bank. doh

Been using Cirrus since 80s ,, had no problem with ATMs all over Russia and Eastern Europe.
Used Master or Visa for petrol, hotels and restaurants and Cirrus cash card for ATMs.

We crossed from Ukraine to Dubasari, then continued to Moldova in the same day.
In the Ukraine-PMR border we lasted 2 hours to fill the inmigration card and bike importation; I still am not sure if this happens because we did not want to give them the money they ask (money for the resistance, they said)
We did not fill any PMR or Moldovan address, because we had not booked any hotel. No problem with it.
Our green card covers Moldova, and, honestly, I never thought about getting an insurance for PMR, because it is not a recognized country for UE. Anyway, nobody told us anything about it, and cops asked for the bike documents.
No problems in the PMR-Moldovan border, except the bribe the Moldovan cops ask; they ask for 5€, but we paid 2$ simply telling him all we have were this 2$...

I did 5,5 hours to cross the UA-PMR border two months ago. Paid 0 bribes. Paid 2,6€ in roadtax for the two bikes (officially as I had the papers with the stamps etc)

Took a MD greencard in UA (paid too much...) which is valid for PMR and MD; since "officialy" PMR = MD.
From PMR to MD no problems, a few questions etc, but we managed to get into MD without even paying the roadtax and got a MD sticker for the bike by the customs officer ;-)

But we made it into the local newspaper... so it was worth it after all!
