I found a reference to this ferry on the Romanian Tourism website, so I wrote to them asking to confirm. Unfortunately, the ferry no longer runs.

Hi Chris,

When will you be going that way?

I'll be there around the end of august.

I am trying to get info together on this area too. Hoping to ride around the Black sea next year.
Would you take the ferry to avoid Oukraine, Russia and Georgia?
I am expecting to get some first hand info from a friend who has been in Oukraine and is staying in Odessa right now.

I know Oukraine is supposed to be 'no go' by some, but others say it is ok. So I think I'll take my changes there. I have some friends in Kiev and think they will be able to help me out. Russia is doable I hear. But Georgia is the main question for me because of Chechenia that is so nearby.

Any info on this region is welcome.

Fireboomer:

I met up with Ian Wood (Gearjammer) near Paris last month, he had just finished making an overland trip from Peking, China and went through Ukraine. He said the cops in Ukraine had their hands in his pockets every 50 miles, wanting money.

I would like to go to Ukraine, there is a small town there that I want to visit, but I think the only way I would do it would be to enter from the very closest border point, go directly to the town, then directly out. So far as transiting Ukraine goes, I think I would find another route. Just sounds to me like it would be too much grief for what it has to offer.

Hi Michael,

Thanks for the info. I am still getting info together. I really want to do this trip someday.
Haven't decided yet wether it is a no go or a go. Know some people living in Oukraine (Kiev) and have a friend returning next week (from Odessa). I'll keep you posted.

Who has an idea where to find info on Georgia? Or is there anybody to contact down there?
