Offroad FINLAND - RUSSIA

Hi all,

We are doing a round trip this summer to Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finalnd, Russia etc... most of it will be offroad (Sweden and Norway) but I am having troubles to find offroad tracks in Finland (N to S) and in Russia.

Is there anybody who can help us out? You can always send us your info/tracks.

We would appreciate it very much!!!

Hi,

Could you please specific bit more of you route plans. Where you are crossing the FIN - RUS boarder? Boarder is running N - S and there is 8 boarder crossing points and one in north via Norway.
In Finland we have some 27 000km of gravel roads + lot of off-road trails and paths.
In Russia there is also lot of gravel and off-road and old roads and some are really bad condition hard core.
Also what time of the summer you are going?
Up north snow melts after mid summer and water level on rivers stays high until late August. That is the point you should take in consideration when going off-road tracks.

That's our journey last summer KOLA TOUR

We are also arranging some events in Finland this year:

Hi,

So this is the itinerary that I planned in Finland.

If you have better offroad or gravel options around somewhere, please tell me! I just used Garmin Basecamp to plot this one, so not sure if all in the East of Finland will be nice to ride.
Rovaniemi has to be on the track, sonce my wife wants to see the santa claus thing... ;-)
We will cross Finland roughly from June 24 till July first... need to be in St Petersburg by the first week of July... I'll have a look on the links that you mentioned.

Thx for the reply in any case, stay in touch as I am hoping to find some nice 'scenery tracks-gravel' for in Finland.

Okay,
It look likes some 80% on you route will be on black top so bit tuning will be good idea. East side of Lapland is almost without any roads and with lot of rivers so really hard to go trough. West side of Finland near sea is old sea bottom and flat east side you have some contours of hight. Don't count more than 400 km / day on gravel it can bee hard to do and navigate there is lot of crossroads....
Base Camp it's OK for planing but try to load and use Finland Topo v2 map to verifying where route goes. You should load FIN TOPO to your Base Camp / Mapsource you can even load that to your navigator. Or use Autoroute 60 day trail version for planing and export .gpx and open to Base Camp that will do it.
Also this FIN TOPO is useful for cross checking.

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
