number plate in ireland

Hye!

I'm planning to go in Ireland for a while, and wondering about registeration for moped in this country. My bike has only a 50cc engine, and it's compulsory in France to have number plates for thoses tiny bikes if you bought it new... or if you're travelling with. I had problems in Spain because I hadn't the number plate.
So here is my question: Does moped (small bike with 50cc engine maximum) needs number plates in Ireland?

Thanks for your reply!

Hi Vince.
The simple answer is yes.And you'll need one if you're going to travel through Britain to get there too. Were you planning to ship straight to Ireland or go through UK? If you're doing the second and are crossing from Fishguard to Rosslaire,i'm only 25km from Fishguard so if you need somewhere to stay PM me.
Jon.
