Norway - any must see places/roads etc

Hi

We're off to Norway in September and wanted to know if anyone who has been can recommend any not-to-miss places or roads.
Have borrowed a Lonely Planet but prefer other travellers recommendations

Cheers

Norway

Have a look on ukgser.com and look for any posts by Liv, she's Norwegian and very enthusiastic about her country, there's a wealth of info if your prepared to trawl through it. Check out the troll rd at trollstigen, lysbotn eagles nest, cross the artic circle and get the obligatory pic at he sign. Enjoy your trip, oh jkrijt has done a good trip report on here for Norway as well worth a look.:thumbup1:

Also, check out The Coastal Route Riksveg 17 which is absolutely stunning. Runs from Steinkjer to Bodø (check Via Michelin for details).

On your way up to Steinkjer, you can take the Atlantic Ocean Road (Atlanterhavsvegen). Very nice stretch of road.

Further south, you have the Suleskar Mountain Road (Suleskarvegen) which also is a gem. Extremely scenic.

After this, you can enter The Lysebotn Experience. Have a look at this road leading down to Lysebotn:

The Trollstigen is a must too. And not too many tourist vans wheezing up the steep road in September.

But it all comes down to how many days you plan to stay in Norway. I assume you are going by bike - remember that Norway is long and speed limits (ridiculously) low, so transiting from one of the scenic areas to another takes time.

Anyway: You can't go wrong, really. And September is actually a very nice time of year to visit Norway. Not too many tourists, chilled nice & fresh air, splendid colors and so forth. Have fun!

Hi, I'm concidering trying Norway / Sweden in September. I've only ever done June / July before. If they have an "Indian summer" it should be a wonderful time to visit. I don't know your route but if your using the E39 north of Bergen there is a nice little road from Matre which meets up with the Oppedal / Lavik ferry. There is camping at Hest too (30k from Matre). It's a lovely introduction to Norway with a little bit of everything. Lakes, hairpins and some nice views. It beats following campervans along the E39.

Almost all the roads have something to offer. The gravel is good too.

Have a good one.:thumbup1:

If your travels take you far enough north. Take the ferry across to the Lofoton Isl's, then work your way back to the mainland via the inter-connecting bridges. You want regret it for a minute.

Cheers

Graeme.

Hi Bec, are you camping and are you looking for some gravel roads?
The Jotunheimvegen and the peer Gynt vegen out of Vinstra (Norway) are nice easy gravel roads. The waterfall, hallingsafallen near Gaddede (Sweden / Norway border) is a nice little 15k gravel road to the highest waterfall in Sweden.

Have fun
