Motorbikes in South Spain

I need help but apologies that the assistance I require is not on the grand scale of any long haul overland, trip of months and months. Hopefully someone may have some local knowledge to share nonetheless.

I am heading down to the South of Spain for the last week in August to hopefully travel round the region – Granada, Seville, Cadiz Cordoba etc etc. Flying into Granada (obviously considered taking bikes down but limited with ferry times, and only have a week in total so didn’t want to lose half of that travelling there and back). There are two of us going and ideally we would like to hire motorbikes to get around. Does anyone know of any good hire places in the region? We are travelling on a rather tight budget and therefore any knowledge of bargain hires would be great! Not especially bothered about the type of bikes (???) - beggars can’t be choosers! We both would look to hire one each.

Any other info as to places of interest or recommendations would be also be greatly received.

Cheers!

Hi Charlotte

Granada Airport (GPS: 37º 11.3' N 3º 46.6' W) is a small airport 12 miles out of the city. I can't find much info out about bike hire around Granada (Spain hasn't joined in with the rest of the world in it's technological advancement yet, but it's getting there slowly).
Your best bet may be to get a shuttle down to Malaga (less than a couple of hours drive) as there is more choice for you down there. Here are a few links:

Rent a Bike in Andalusia, Motorcycle rental, HISPANIA-TOURS
Motomercado Rent a Bike Malaga Motor Bike Hire
Larios Car Hire. Málaga rent a car & bike, Costa del Sol. Alquiler de coches, motos y furgonetas Malaga
Motorcycle Rentals, Harley-Davidson, Los Angeles, San Francisco, California, Orlando, Florida, Denver, Las Vegas, Miami and St Louis
Motor Bike Hire, Motor Bike Rental, Rent a bike, Costa del Sol, Malaga, Puerto Banus, Marbella,San Pedro, Spain
Motorcycle Rental in Malaga, Spain - Honda, Harley Davidson, Yamaha - AdMo-Tours

Car hire won't be a problem - there's a couple of places just outside the airport.

Places to visit - would suggest you do a loop if you only have a week and want to go sightseeing:

Granada - The Alhambra
Sierra Nevada
Nerja - Caves
Malaga - Picasso Museum, Cathedral, Alcazabar & Generalife
Gibraltar - bit tacky, but the Barbary Apes are worth seeing
Cadiz - use the toll road, the AP7 is VERY dangerous and not worth it
Ronda - oldest bullring in Spain
Seville
Cordoba - The Mezquita

If you find you've got a couple of hours to spare, give me a shout and me and the hubby can meet you somewhere. I live about 40kms NE of Malaga.

Btw, end of August - expect temperatures of around 35-40C during the day - it's the hottest time of the year. Great when you're moving, but very hot when you're stuck in traffic with all your gear on. Maybe the aircon in a car is a little more appealing?

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
