Austrian/Italian/Slovenian border

There is a great route out of Austria into the most N.E. tip of Italy from where you can enter Slovenia (it is a beautiful old pass). The motorway out of Austria goes through a long toll-tunnel (forgot its name) and if you continue you end up in Ljublijana, the capital of Slovenia, quick but boring! Found the pass purely by suprise but what a thrill to cross....Forgot the roadnumbers but it must show on a map of the area.

Cheers, Rob

I guess your talking about the Karavankentunnel.

Never been there, I only saw the road signs...

Northern Italy

Karavankentunnel...that's the one!
The pass I was referring to had some war memorials I think from WW 1, when the Italians fought The Habsburgers forces of the Kaiser, thousands got killed there in the mountains, a bit of a forgotten battleground. Halfway up this pass is the border-post with Slovenia....a relict of the past nowadays but still a romantic spot.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, and again, and again: you should definitely go through Trier, which claims to be the oldest German city (founded more than 2,000 years ago), on your way towards Munich. Beautiful place, always worth a visit. And lots of Roman ruins. You should also consider Luxembourg on your way there, Trier is right at the German - Luxembourg border and they have cheap fuel (and I mean REALLY cheap).

Drop me a line when you know what time around you'll be in Munich. I might be able to take a day off and of course you're invited to stay with my wife and me while you're here

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
