Problem in Salerno, Italy - storage help/advice required asap please!! :)

Hey guys

Sam and Clare here... we've just started our round the world charity trip on motorbikes and have made it from the UK down to just outside Salerno, Italy where we've encountered some problems

Short Story:

We have to fly back to the UK to have some tests as I have been diagnosed with veeeery low blood pressure causing me to be super dizzy and unable to ride! We are therefore trying to find somewhere to store our bikes and a couple of sets of panniers/2 helmets and boots whilst we head back to the UK for a couple of weeks to get me properly tested and the right medication! We're right now on the outskirts of Salerno, Italy!

Long Story:

I have been feeling a wee bit off balance for the past week and figured it was just getting used to riding with the extra luggage and riding long hours every day (as we have been on a time limit to get to the port to head over to Tunis). A few days back though I ended up being super dizzy - enough to not be able to walk straight let alone ride! We popped to the hospital and it turns out I have stupid low blood pressure (80/40) and although they managed to bring it back up to 90/60 the results went back to the UK and they want me home to do some further testings.

They've said it's probably nothing to worry about but I've been getting dizzy spells for a few months and we just thought it was the stress of trip planning and house selling (which it could be!) so they just want to get me the right medication before we head off into Africa (we are going to some remote places in Africa so need to be in tip top shape!)

Help!

So as above, we're needing somewhere to store our bikes and panniers for a few weeks whilst I go get properly tested!

You can read up more here (and see some lush photos of me stuck in a hospital on some awesome drips in Italy!) www.facebook.co.uk/chasinghorizons

Any help whatsoever would be super super appreciated! The sooner I can fly home the sooner I can get some medication to help me stop being so dizzy and confused

Thanks so much guys and girls, we both really appreciate your help!

Ooh as an additional, if I was unable to continue for some reason or another we would arrange for transport to pick up the bikes within a few weeks as soon as we knew the results so there would be no long term bike storage required, just a few weeks worth

Thanks again so much everyone

KTM Dealership

Whenever I have wanted to store a bike overseas, if I can’t source something privately, then I tend to approach a motorcycle shop. These usually have a backyard storeroom full of bikes plus bits n bobs.

There appears to be KTM Dealership in Salerno at:
Waterfront Colombo 249 I-84129 Salerno (SA)
Phone Number: 089338596

If all else fails (privately) then these guys should be sympathetic to your current predicament, especially in view of the common KTM ground. Maybe get them to carry out some work that you might need doing, e.g. fixing Clare’s speedo, or perhaps an oil/filter change (not that you probably need one so early-on in your ride) and they should oblige. Plus you could offer them a fair commercial rate for the storage in question, which nearly always seals the deal .. IF they have the spare capacity.

Best of luck. Hope you make a speedy and full recovery.

Happy['ish] New Year ..
.. under the circumstances!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
