Stolen - Blue/White Suzuki DR650SE Edinburgh

Well hadn't looked at my bike since Sunday so had a quick look this morning and found out its been stolen. It's kept in Slateford, Edinburgh and was chained next to my BMW1150GS but they've obviously used bolt cutters. Both bikes are kept covered up with black Motrax covers so it wasn't exactly obvious what it was. The bikes are kept on a dead-end side street so whoever did it went looking for it.

Ironically I'm trying to sell it and have only just fitted the UK plates (I rode it back from Australia) at the weekend as it's taken 2 months and cost me about £500 to get it registered here. Have now contacted Police, my insurance co and the local Suzuki dealer.

Anyway, its a standard DR650SE (2006) but with a Staintune exhaust and heated grips, otherwise pretty much standard appart from the 'Golden Boy' rear tyre from Pakistan.

No doubt if it is found, it'll be in bits after the local tosspot neds have had their way with it...

Well 8 weeks have gone by since it was nicked but unfortunately my DR still hasn't shown up. The insurance co did pay out something so despite still being out of pocket thanks to the UK registration and import taxes, at least I cut my losses.

Alas, t'was a damn fine bike...

Cheers Matt. Still, with the insurance payout, I've just bought myself, erm... well I've bought a used Fiat. Hmmm, I'm sure I'll have just as many adventures with that. I could even take a drive out to Ikea or B&Q if I really wanted.

History you say? Well I guess we had our moments...(cue Neighbours-style dreamy music)

A wee reminder to keep our bikes a bit more secure...

hi sorry to hear you've still not got your bike back! i know where it is tho you may not want it back in the condition its in..its up in the "inch" area sitting in a back garden all lights and most of the wiring has been removed your exhaust has been damaged and the whole bike has been sprayed white! and its a pretty bad job to be fair it was a 2 lads from niddrie that stole it from gorgie (dalry) they sold it to a guy in the inch. if you tell the police to check the usual hotspots (backgardens of interest) im sure they'll find it not a problem though i do warn you its in a sorry state! still runs fine though (this didnt come from me!!)

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
