KTM 690 stolen in Dublin.

I've been in the country for less then 8 hours. This was supposed to be the 2nd leg of my RTW. My 2010 KTM 690 was taken from the corner of Talbot Place and Talbot street in Dublin in broad daylight. I was in a near by hostel resting after an overnight flight. I put a padlock through the front break but they cut the lock with a bolt cutter. Obviously it wasn't enough. There was no luggage on it at the time.

The bike is white with a Rally Raid fairing. Minnesota licence plate 12071MH

Thank you. On the plus side.. I do have all my luggage. I might be continuing on another bike if my Katy M is gone. Let me know what you will sell me for cheap :confused1:

Sorry to hear that - what a thing to happen so soon after arriving....

There's an HU Ireland/Dublin community here:
Horizons Unlimited Motorcycle Travellers' Community - Contact a Community!

Could be worth a message.

And in my opinion, keep in touch with the police you've reported it to, could help to keep it up their priority list.

All the best.

I have hopefully hellpbed by posting this in a few other places. Unfortunately I doubt my XF650 Thumper would be of any use to you.

Post on here if you are looking for a bike, what your budget is and the type of bike and I'll have a look around all the normal online spots.

If you are coming up North, I'm in Fermanagh and happy to help you in any way I can.

Sorry to hear about that lad, I saw this posted on another irish bike forum. Those guys are always good for keeping an eye out. Hope you get it back soon

Sorry to hear it mate,
welcome to dublin, the shithole of Ireland

LiamMcILhone 10 Aug 2012 09:50

Hi Noah

Details and picture of your bike has been put up on many local sites and I understand that Dublin police have a "watch out for this bike" message regularly going out to all patrols.

Not necessary to say what we all think of the lowlife who do these things.

Your first post and this is your contribution?
If you spend a little more time on the site I think you'll discover that such unfounded smears are not usual or welcome.
BTW I'm not from Dublin but I've spend a couple of good weekends there recently - good people, interesting history and some lovely areas. Unfortunately vehicle theft is far too common in any European city.

Noah, Really sorry to hear of this crime. I hope it's only a temporary setback on your journey and some watchful eyes will spot the bike.
I suggest contacting both local and national radio stations. Phone-in programmes are very popular in Ireland.

BunionBalls 10 Aug 2012 15:42

Well I am from Dublin so I know what Im talking about,
you cant leave your bike anywhere or It'll end up being lashed around a field.
and then burned out,

Its completely out of control at the moment.
Recently lads being pulled off bikes at traffic lights and lads getting their heads kicked in and their bikes robbed.

If thats not a shit hole what is?

No apologies for my comment

ianc99 11 Aug 2012 14:34

Noah,
Not sure if your monitoring this. I saw you were staying in Isaacs but when I rang this morning you had checked out.

Shity thing to have happen and despite what others say - its not a fair reflection of Dublin or Ireland.

I'm based just outside Dublin and can loan you a bike to see Ireland on while you're waiting to get yours back.

Just PM me on this site or email me on ian.x.cassidy at gmail.com.

I'll also do the donedeal.ie posting if you want to offer a few $$. I've heard this does work.

Lynch180 - I see you're marked as being in Panama. My family and I toured down to Panama in a camper a couple of years ago from the US. I kept wishing I was on my bike!

I

Any word on whether Noah got his bike back? I've not heard anything.

Hi,
Had a blast, still cant wait to get home and get a proper Irish dinner:D
I was reading the posts on biker.ie and for a while it looked like the guards were onto something, they raided a place that had 6 stolen bikes, one being a KTM..............
I read on in anticipation but turned out it was not Noah's bike:(

Senno 14 Aug 2012 12:13

^^Still, anything that scuppers the scum is good

Poland

from my trip in Ierland a few yeears ago, I know that there are Polish gangs who are specialised in steeling cars in Ierland and bring them to Poland. i would recommend to ask the Polish community too to look for your bike!

there is a crowd called gannons they are contracted to dublin city council to remove cars and bikes from dublin and yes even if its locked to a pole on a path they are a ruthless shower today i saw two very nice bmw bikes going in they are between swords and blakes cross

gwel 1 Sep 2012 16:13

My xt 600 was stolen in Dublin city center almost 10 years ago, I contacted the police straight away...

About 4 weeks later they found in the street near Montjoy, so the bike was kept at the Montjoy Garda Station for me to collect.

So I would suggest to contact them just in case

Like someone else said, "not organised crime" just youngster wanting to "have fun" in the field...

The scum bag did not go far with it, at that time, there was a faulty contact near main fuse, and intake rubber were damaged, so "I" only was able to start..

They removed all plastics, detroyed ignition, odometer etc....

You may be lucky, like I was, and recover it

Best of luck

Yes it was recovered. I got the call literally when I was putting the last screw in the "new" bike. Now it seems I have 2 American registered KTM 690s in the UK. I'll be heading south on the "new" one to continue my journey. Thanks to everyone who has helped me or offered support.

The "old" one is in very good condition considering. I spent all day yesterday replacing the dash and getting the electrics sorted that the bastards ripped off. It will continue traveling with somebody. :scooter:

You will probably see her posted up soon in the travel bike section.

LiamMcILhone 13 Sep 2012 09:12

Heading South sounds good Noah bier

Hope you enjoyed Scottish scenery and caught a few fish:clap:

Senno 19 Sep 2012 21:59
