Funny, I was just about to post the same question. Have a friend who might fly in to turkey for 2 weeks to join my cape-cape tour for a bit.
Looking for a 2up bike for him and his spouse! |

If you dont have a personal reason to visit İstanbul by bike, we highly recommend you to hire the bike in Antalya area.
1-Because of the traffic and parking problems, the best way to travel in İstanbul is by metro and city buses. You can visit all places of interest in İstanbul more comfortabely by staying in city center area.Grand Bazar,Blue Mosque,St.Sophia,Golden Horn,Spice Bazaar,Galata Bridge,Topkapı Palace, nearly all museums are are at a walking distance from each other in the Sultanahmet Area. Also no vehicles are allowed to some streets. 2-The most touristic, historical and natural interesting places are situated in South Anatolia for bikers and Antalya is the center for all your needs including the international airport. 3-Flight tickets are cheaper than that you will pay for gasoline between İstanbul and Antalya.(Almost 2,-- euros per liter) 4-All small towns around Antalya have interesting routes for bikers and different choices for accommodation. In istanbul prices are all expensive and probably you will be unable to get back your deposits. A link to hire bikes in Kemer.(has own service) http://www.motoaslanko.com/tr/Default.asp Official portal for more information. I agree with m.z.a, that a motorcycle is not the best way to get around the city of Istanbul as a tourist.
In addition to Istanbul metro, buses, and taxis, to get around the city, consider a scooter rental inside the city. But you could follow m.z.a's advice while visiting Istanbul, and still rent a bike in Istanbul when you're ready to leave the city. Along with m.z.a's Antalya suggestions, there are also BMW rentals available on the southwest/ Aegean coast in Gocek, an easy domestic airflight from IST to Dalaman airport, or some direct flights from EU gateways to Dalaman: Bike Turkey Home |
