istanbul, bike storage
 

Yes, I know, here is again the same old question. I also know is a pain in the ass getting custom permit to keep the bike in Turkey meanwhile you fly away, but I am gonna try it anyway just for one or two months. Does anyone how to do it and where to keep the bike? I ve heard there is something like a custom parking at the airport in Istambul, but not sure about that.

Yes you can... if you need to leave the country without your motorcycle you have to leave it in a customs depot and get it cleared from your passport. It is quite safe to leave your motorcycle in a customs depot but they will charge you for parking. I don't know the contact details of the Istanbul Customs but if nobody replies to you in next 24 hours I can find and post it here.

the customs parking in istanbul is very close to ataturk airport. when you ride from yesilkoy roundabout to the airport main entrance it is on you right side (about 300-400 m after the big roundabout). hard to see from the road. it has a rusty small sign. ask someone if could not see. paperwork takes 2-3 hours and parking fee is small. İ've done it on 2006. so it was nearly 5 years. hope this helps

Yep, you definitely need a Carnet to bring any type of foreign registered vehicle into Turkey. The good news is that you can buy them at the border or port of entry.

samy and KayaKoyuOldBoy, i think you both are wrong. there is no need for carne to enter and to leave for Turkey. I have brough my UK number plated bmw back in 2006 and no carne was asked. also if you do search on the HUBB you'll see that no carne is needed.

so Miquel-Silvestre, you do not need carne for Turkey. just need to buy a insurance at the border which is app 10 euros.

I ve been to Turkey few times and definitely no CDP is required. Not for UE vehicles but I also saw two chinese bikes, with chinese paperwork, and they got in. About insurance, the Green Card is OK in Turkey, so if you got it in UE, do not need to pay insurance at the border.

Hi everyone

I'm planning to travel from Switzerland to Turkey in September, leave the bike in Bursa over winter (at my parents'), fly back to Switzerland and continue in March towards Jordan, perhaps Egypt. Is that not possible? I have two passports, Turkish and Swiss, how about when I travel in with one, and out with the other? My turkish pass is full of stamps, so I can't imagine they'll realize the missing stamp when travelling out.

it is not only stamp. they also have a data base on the computers.

the only "official" customs storage in istanbul is near Atatürk airport on the european side. i used to live near sabiha gökçen when i was in istanbul and i am sure there is no any storage.


i do have plans to ride to middle east, however, i do not have time this year.. it really sounds excited. may be next year. who knows.
