Ismir to Dogubeyazit

Hello there, I want to cover the distance from Cesme (Ismir) to Dogubeyazit as soon as I can, in order to enter Iran. Do you know how much time I will need? In your opinion is better to take that route Cesme (Ismir) entering Turkey, or the other way from Istanbul? Thank you.

hi neighbour,

eighter you enter to Turkiye from Cesme (Izmir) or from Ipsala Border near Istanbul you have to go to Ankara for the shortest and better road. And from Ankara follow:
Ankara - Kirikkale - Yozgat - Sivas - Erzincan - Erzurum - Agri - Dogubeyazit border - Iran. I'll do the same route as soon as I can and really want to see Iran soon.

hope this help. any more question always welcome.

have fun

Hello ozhanu, which is better road to follow up to Ankara? From Istanbul or Ismir? Do you know how much time it will take me, up to borders with Iran? Can the whole route be done in two days? Thank you.

hi again,

the road from Istanbul to Ankara is motorway (autobahn), so you can open the throttle as much as you want. Izmir-Ankara road is also good but not motorway, there are some dual carriage roads but no problem really. Izmir-Ankara is about 2-2.5 hours shorter then Kapikule border - Ankara. Izmir-Ankara is 580 km (I am from Izmir, but I live in Ankara, so I know every curve on that road:) and Istanbul-Ankara is about 450km, add another 250-300 km from border to Istanbul, so, from the border to Ankara 700-750 km.

From Ankara to Dogubeyazit (Iran border) is about 1150km.

If you enter Turkiye from Izmir you have to cover about total of 1800 km. This means 900 km per day if you want to do this route in two days. It is not impossible but i dont suggest you to do that in two days. The roads after Ankara is not as good as Izmir-Ankara or Istanbul-Ankara roads. So, you have to slow down there. Best split it in 3 days and ride save. If I were you first day I would stop in Ankara, second day cover the Ankara-Sivas or Erzincan. And third day the rest up to Dogubeyazit. 600 save kilometer per day.

When will you start this journey?

have fun

Hello there, I am planning a trip to Nepal, but dont have a lot of days so I would prefer to go as fast as I can there, fool around about a week and if I have time visit places while returning back home. I am thinking starting at the first days of September and returning back on October. I think you are right about 3 days trip on Turkey. Thank you very much for the info. Saw your trips. Really interesting! Keep going!

mate, i think it is really hard to do from Athens to Nepal in a month and come back. As far as I know from Nasuh Mahruki's trip from Istanbul to Nepal the distance is about 9000 Km and you have 15 day to cover it. it means 600km per day. The road condition in Pakistan and India would not let you go that fast enough.

the other option is (if you are not tight on budget) come to Turkiye on August, live your bike here (i'll be in Istanbul for a new job on August) and go back to Greece. In September come by plane and directly start you journey. Do the same on the way back. So, you could save 4 or 5 days. I can also arrange save place for your bike in Izmir.

Always welcome.

Hi ;

Tips from my trip .... Ankara-Katmandu ... 2003 ...

Shortest Route :

IRAN : Tebriz-Tahran-Kerman-Bam-Mirjaveh .... 500-600 km/day is very much possible.Traffic between the cities wont bother you too much... You can make it in 4 days.

PAKISTAN : Quetta-Lahore ... 1 day between Taftan-Quetta .. 2 days between Quetta-Lahore ....total duration for Pakistan ... 3 days ...

INDIA: Amritsar-Banbassa ... Ridicilous! ... average speed 50-60km/hr ... If i remember correct Amritsar to Banbassa will take (at best) 3 days...

NEPAL : Banbassa-Katmandu ... although short distance ...hmm ... ~ 800 km. (if i remember correct) ... 2 days ...

So if you realy push it ... you can make it in 15 days from Athens-Katmandu ...

Quite a rally :)

Cheers,

Hi Murrat, if everything goes right I will start my trip on 1st of September trying pass quickly turkey-iran-pakistan-idia reaching Nepal after 15 days. Maybe I will meet you on the road... Have a nice and safe trip. Nicolas

Wow, thats a tough task to go through Turkey in just 2 days... try to find some more time if you can, because that wont be fun!

Also if planning to pass through Pakistan & India 'quickly', do note that the roads are not good (well some are, but most of them arent) and traffic is absolutely horrible. In Pakistan, but even more so in India.

xrnik 11 Apr 2008 14:39

... thats why I will try to cover as quickly as possible turkey-iran and slow down on pak-india. Thank you for the info..
