Ireland to UK trip...
 

Hey folks, I'm just planning to head over to the UK for a week or so from Ireland for some business, and decided to ride instead of fly. I've not been out in Europe before, just wondering is there anything I need to do?
I have insurance here in Ireland, and I also have an Australian driving licence, is that all good enough? Do I need to get insurance for Wales/England? Anything I might need to be aware of before I get that ferry.....?

Check your documents to make sure but I think any motor insurance issued in the EU will cover you third party only in all other EU countires. A UK licence is valid in Oz so I am guessing it works the other way, if you are stopped the plod are unlikely to know.
Expect nothing out of the ordinary in England except busy roads but you will find the road signs in English and Welsh in Wales.

Your Irish insurance is good for EU countries and your licence shouldn't be a problem. If you are in any doubt give them a ring. Some insurance companies offer roadside assistance across the EU so you might want to make sure you have the number to call.

Depending on where you are headed, I can recommend riding down through Wales, Peak District, Lake district and Yorkshire Dales. People are very friendly and the beer is good -if you like warm ale.

The motorway to London, Manchester (or anywhere for that matter) is dull dull dull. Stick to the A roads and enjoy your trip.
