Insurance Question....

G'day! I've contacted the Luxemberg mob to see if I can get insurance from them. The reply was,"It is only possible to submit you a Third Party Liability Insurance, the Frontier Insurance, valid only in Europe,EC."
Is this the insurance I'm looking for to be legal when riding through the EU? From what I have read here, other countries,( Syria, Turkey,Serbia, etc.(any others?), are available at the respective borders,at a "price'.
Please help sort my muddled head.....
Cheers, Bootlace.:confused1:

Yeah, a green card will give you third party cover in any EU country. Some parts of Europe are not in the EU so you will have to buy insurance at the border or near by.

That is correct, but if you can buy full insurance in an EU state you should also be able to get most other countries covered too. The problem is that insurers expect you to have an address in their state - but if you have a friend in the UK it shouldn't be too difficult to work out as long as you are riding a UK registered bike. There are ways around most problems but it will get more complicated and more expensive...

See this post here on HUBB, it has all the information you need: Here is where you get the cheap European green card insurance.

I am aware of two options that are available to the "not from Europe" rider who plans to bring a bike to Europe and ride around.

1) If you plan to stay within the EC countries, then the 22 Euro a month liability coverage from Arisa is all you need. If you plan to perhaps venture out of the EC to only one or two other countries, then you can cope with the unique insurance requirements of those countries at the border crossing.

2) If you plan to do extensive travel in countries that are not part of the EC, then consider getting liability insurance from Motorcycle Express. They provide the same level of coverage (minimum legal requirement for liability), but their policy is good in just about every country from Iceland to Israel. Heck, it's even valid in Iraq, not that I would recommend you plan on riding through there.

The policy from Motorcycle Express is considerably more expensive (about USD $120 a month, I think) but it covers twice as many countries, thus, it is a better buy for someone who plans on doing extensive travel outside of the EC.

Thanks all. Unfortunately ARISA couldn't do it by email,(or they weren't interested when they learn't of the bikes Australian Rego, dunno...), and the other one is for US or Canadians only. Never mind, leaving on Wednsday for Jordan, so will just have to wing it!
Thanks again and see ya on the road!
Boot.
