Bikes are charged at about 55% of the car Tarrifs. But look at

ASFA : trajet d'autoroute et itinéraire autoroutier – Autoroutes.fr

Type in your start and finish town, type of vehicle and click on 'Validifier'. This will give you not only the toll cost but also distance (in miles or Km) and time at maximum permitted speed (without stops).

For example, Calais to Toulon on a bike is 709 miles, 10h48m and 48.30Euros (about £33.50), one way.

If you really are a prize tight git consider doing what I have done in the past - that is to travel one way over the weekend of the Bol D'Or race (this year 15/16 September).

Originally, for 20+ years, all French Autoroutes were free for bikes from thursday morning to tuesday night (I think these are the limits). This was on the grounds of safety as the authorities preferred to keep the hundreds of thousands of motor cyclist spectators on the Autoroutes rather than going through towns and villages.

A year or two back this was reduced to just the southern Autoroutes south of Paris and Rheims.

I believe this was further restricted last year as the toll operating Companies decided keeping up their Revenue was more important than putting motorcyclists lives at risk on other roads.

Matt

I don't know how that site treats cost options but there are some free sections of Autoroutes going south - but not on the usual Paris-Lyon-Avignon-Beziers-Narbonne route to Spain.

But a little further west, the A71/75 E11 is (or was!) free from Clermont Ferrand to Beziers. It has less traffic and is more interesting scenically. But dont stop to admire it from the Millau viaduct (highest in Europe) - instant on the spot fines, I am told!

ahhh well worth knowing.... route I have at the moment is

Nehaven -> Dieppe (Ferry)
Dieppe -> Bourges

Bourges-> Toulouse

Toulouse -> Tarragona

Taragona-> Alicante

Alicante -> Algerciras

Algerciras -> Ceuta (Ferry)

From there I'm making it up as I go along.
