Great deals on Plymouth > Santander ferries
Sorry if this is common knowledge but I wanted to share a surprising discovery I made recently ..

It seems that Brittany Ferries is doing £100 one way trips for motrocycles on this trip - the cheapest I found elsewhere was £250 from P&O.

I haven't checked return prices but I am still pretty happy with that one way quote ..

Maybe its the seasonal rate and I am just out of the loop on prices, but given the cost of diesel fuel and the hard times, I think thats a very good price indeed.

Confirmed .. I just booked a one way trip for 14th Feb 2010.
£100.

It looks like they are fully booked through January and there are few dates left (I only noticed one date available in Feb) and Portsmouth is entirely booked out.

I guess its cheap for those reasons .. fill er up!

Not fully booked, Brittany don't run that route in January. P&O prices go through the roof for that period.

Good find Harry, but curious about your bike and diesel...

Hehe. I didn't know that about the route not being operated in Jan ..
Why is that? A lack of demand making it not worth the cost/s to run half empty ships or something?

I figured the ferries run on diesel .. ? I wish I had a diesel bike! :P

No, just a CG125 .. and some heavy shopping.

I really don't know anything about ferry prices tbh. Is £100 even a good price? Hehe. I hope so! It seems like it is anyway. My only previous experience was violently expelling some coffee the last time I checked how much an overnight to Spain costs. I think it was Portsmouth > Bilbao about five years ago and it was £350. But for some reason they didnt have any option for a chair and not a cabin. Think it was P&O actually ..

Anyway, its a looooong way to Plymouth from Derby. Might head down on the Friday and spend the Saturday seeing the sights.

Anyone based down there know of any good B&B they can recommend? Bike friendly etc?

I think there's some £29 a night Holiday Inns etc on the M5 too?

The Pont Aven which is Brittany's flagship is taken out of service for an annual overhaul, and yes, there's not much traffic at that time of year. £100 is an excellent price when you consider that you would have to cross the channel anyway (say £30), then pay for 650 miles of fuel through France.

To give you an idea, I just got a quote for July 2010 return £483. Which is what I would expect for the trip. Doing the trip in the winter is going to be a lot cheaper but £100 is excelent, good find.

20 miles beyond the ferry at Liskeard there is a premier inn with a big £29 sign outside. I could also recommend my local pub. Real ale, good food and the owner/chef rides bikes. I could even be persuaded to pop down and join you for an ale or 2 .

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love.
